So I'm not sure what to think about this shot. I'm surprised at the score. Though I like it, it seems souless. It was taken from a car window over Christmas. But while it seems to have no soul as a photograph, I was fascinated by the beauty while we were driving. It was frozen fog on the all thetrees and it went for miles and miles. I found myself saying over and over again how incredibly beautiful it was, and how much I was enjoying it. How is it that I can experience it, finding great joy in it, but finding a photograph uninspiring?? Yet with its score, maybe what I was feeling did come through.

Perhaps my problem is: no matter how good the photograph, it rarely stand up to the real thing.

Soulless? I don't know about that. Perhaps this photo does not tell a story, but it definitely captures the quiet beauty of nature in the scene.

However, I can relate to your concern. I just think I can look through some of my recent entries and find images that better illustrate this concern. There are images that I might categorize as mildly pleasant but with no redeeming value. I do need to work this year to give voters some meatier images. Something that can be savored. And, not worry too much bout the voters only looking for immediate gratification.

Congrats on the ribbon Wendy. I agree with the statement "it rarely stands up to the real thing." I think that is one of the hardest issues I have with photography and envy those that manage to do it.
