Challenge: Side by Side (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Nikon D750
Lens: Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR
Date: Jul 10, 2015
Aperture: 10.0
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/640
Date Uploaded: Jul 14, 2015

Top Frame - Me holding a razor against the sky (Sony a6000)
Bottom Frame - Partially harvested field (Nikon D750)

Both edited for light and White Balance, cropped straight and joined side-by-side.

Final edits in Nik Viveza and Lightroom

Have a better version with overlaps, but this challenge definition is so dodgy that it's not worth risking during the DPL. Bad form putting something like this in during the league.

***

I had so much fun shooting for this challenge, even with all the editing rule confusion. I am thrilled this did so well. Thank you all for the wonderful comments. This was actually my second choice for edits but I wanted to avoid any possible confusion on both the editing rules and the potential for any negative impact on voting if I used overlapping. This was my first choice of edits.

I'm thrilled to have this as my first 7.

I'm so flattered, Lydia. The idea didn't come to me fully formed. As I looked at the example photos I couldn't conceive of how he could come up with the fully formed idea and decided that he had to start with one photo/object and then extrapolate. So, I got in my car and went for a drive looking for anything I could draw a line through and add something to the top. It's amazing how many things there are that fit this. I was actually driving down a back road to try and get a shot of some power plant cooling towers when I saw this mowed path in a field and immediately thought "Razor!!". Had I not been looking with eyes fixed on that idea I'd never have come up with this on my own.

I had a feeling this would be a winner. A very good flow to it that was very in the spirit of the challenge. Way to go using the horizon line to your advantage. Got an 8 from me.

Funny how rare it is that the image I thought was the standout image wins the blue. This one was and it did. Great use of colors and humor.

I loved this from the moment I saw it.
And then... Every time I went back and looked to make sure was as fabulous as I'd thought it was.

It was.

Excellent Jake! Go Hit Squad!

I just noticed this was your first 7 score and a new PB! I knew this would win from the first time we saw it. Congratulations again!

HA! Love it. Afraid this will be hit as a composite...really really hoping that you held the razor outside against the sky and didn't just superimpose part of an image over an entire Other image as that was already stated to be not allowed as that's expert editing and outside the special flag here...

still, voting this a 7
