Oh, nice. 45 votes: 6.78
I almost did not take this shot, almost did not enter. But I'm happy I did.
When the challenge presented itself, I knew what I was going to shoot. Just did not know what or where it was. What I wanted, was to shoot an old mill. A quick google search gave me this, not very far off.
The weather was clear and a promise of clear skies with good star visibility. That was not the case, the clouds were rolling in. A chilly wind with a temperature of -20C did not make this easy, the water vapor obscured visibility, froze my fingers and killed the battery. My lens hood was missing and the street lamps were in the wrong position, inserting lens flares.
Well, I did come to the location and I was not leaving that place without a shot. I did not fumble the least with camera or settings and did find all the buttons and toggles in the dark without a problem.
I took the shots but were not very pleased with the resulting images: with a shot against light overexposing it and the rushing water in almost darkness. Why I did not try HDR is a mystery.
Well the raw files do contain a lot of information, and I could work with the noise. Befriending the noise, not making an enemy of it. It was supposed to be a shot of something old anyways. |

Really interesting shot! Lots to look at here! I do like the toning, which accents the age of the structure. On the fence though about all the grain though. Not sure whether it adds or subtracts from the composition. |
