This will likely score low from the non-zoo crowd. I had a hard time deciding between this and an obvious non-zoo shot. In the end I decided to go with the image I felt was the better instead of submitting something I thought the voters may like more. I'm hoping the score will be good, but if not then I'm going to assume it's not completely the quality of the shot, but the subject choice.

Just found this. Sublime. (Never used this word before for a photo, but I think that's what I mean).

Just love the way he's looking directly at the camera. What great tones, with some darkness to the shot, but still bringing out the details. He looks like he's sitting for a portrait painting! I've added this one to my favorites!

I love this! One of my absolute favourite wild animals. You did a fine portrait. Congrats!

In this challenge I did not favor the shots in which the animals were obiviously in captivity. However, although this seems to be a cat in capitivity there is something about it that is worthing scoring it higher....the colors. nice

V-e-r-y nice shot. Actually one of my favorites in the challenge. The lighting is excellent, lending an entirely different feel to this shot than all of the other "cat" photos. The look on this cat's face is stunning, it's hard to stop looking at his(her?) eyes. I'm guessing this isn't a truly "natural" habitat shot, nevertheless, a phenomenal shot. I'd be very proud of this were it me!

Really nice color...great expression...great composition...not sure if you could do anything about the darker area on the right which is taking my attention away from the subject...maybe darken the left side? Either way...great picture!

Beautiful colors... Great expression!! It's hypnotic. I love the overall tawnyness of the picture. These cats are pretty thick around this area although we rarely see them. A couple of years ago, one ventured into the Holy Cross Abbey during morning prayers. A woman was kneeling at prayer, when the mountain lion just walked up the aisle and lay down in front of the alter. I imagine that the woman's prayers changed just about then!! She got out o.k., and the DOW tranquilized the lion and moved him to a less populated area.

Beautiful capture. Good luck in the challenge.

An fine image in exquisite earth colours, texture and tones. The juxtaposition of the utterly relaxed posture of this wholesome cat with its confident gaze communicates, to me, an intimate moment. The soft illumination falling in from the left is either very fortunate or apt for the range of fine textures 'painted' by it. Delectable also is the filigrée of the whiskers, even the brow above the eye.

The photo is extremely tightly cropped, without which, I suppose, we would be left with a fraction of the detail that makes this image. The cat's left paw, however, is 'nicked' by it. Perhaps, a minimally thinner border would have left it intact while still providing sufficient 'lift' off the page it is presented on?

Red is the ribbon colour I chose for this remarkably satisfying capture.

The crop isn't working for me on this one. The fur on the bottom right doesn't add anything to the shot and the paw is cut off. I think I would like this as a square with only the head, portrait with the full paw, or horizontal with the entire body. Other than that it is one of my favorites in the challenge. 9

Excellent sharp capture. I like the full tonal range within this shot. Nothing is over or underexposed. The fur is detailed and sharp. The catchlight in the eyes and the expression of this cat would strike fear into anyone who might approach. In my top 5 of shots! -danny

I really like this shot. Normally I prefer a fair amount of contrast between the subject and the background, but it's so cool how the cat blends into the golden brown color of the wall. In addition, the composition and detail in the fur are outstanding. Really great job.

My most favorite photograph in this challenge! It looks like a painting. Such great texture displayed. Love the muted brown colors. Terrific gold lighting. Fantastic focus, dof. Excellent cropping. The brooding subject is perfect. I even like the frame. If I could vote I would give you a 10. Hope you make this print available for sale.
