To be honest, I think this one deserved to win. It is well done, well thought of and photographed well.

Hi Josh, Strong focused light intensity such as the rays coming through the blinds or the crack of a door should work well. The sun is a free professional light source. Just control it as you would a hot lamp with barn doors. Also, your subject should have a fairly hard surface. If you can add a bit of smoke or shake an old duster just before you shoot, this will enhance the visibility of rays in the flare and the main light source itself, as was done in this shot.

All my best,
Mike Malloy

Fantastic shot, my favorite of the week. After looking at your gallery, it appears that you will certainly be a force to be reckoned with in future challenges. Congrats on the ribbon.

I'm skeptical that it wasn't a Photoshop lens flare.

Brendan, I can assure you that it is an in camera flare. but hey, if you do have a PS filter that can achieve a 16+ point at a 3D angle I'd love to get my hands on it. If you have any doubts about my ability you may view some of my other work. //www.mindandmachine.com Personally I would never use a PS lens flare in a photograph. I realize some may have done this in the past. If you still have doubts I would be more than happy to give you the RAW Canon D60 file of this shot.

With that said..."sigh" I would like to thank you all for the votes and the very warm welcome you have greeted me with on my first post. I look forward to more challenges.

Best Reguards,
Mike Malloy

This is so cool!! I need to get me one of those wooden drawing poser guys, although I don't think I could be nearly as creative as this! The pose is awesome, the lighting is amazing! You have given this inanimate object some great human character! Your subject placement is perfect. I initially gave this an 8 on my initial voting, but since I can't find any way to improve the image it must be a 10. One of my favorites this week (and only 10). Great job!

So funny! I love how you got a catchlight right on it's little face!
01/12/2003 02:02:11 PM
well done, I like it.
01/11/2003 05:09:13 PM
Maybe not the brand new idea but i like the shot :) The only think that bothers me a little is too many noise for this picture. (8)

Classic Bruce song! I really like the sun-ray effect, well executed. The glare on the top of the head is maybe a little too strong, but prolly couldn't be helped, no score change. In fact, this is growning on me. Score upgrade from 6 to 7. Swash

I really like this photo the more I look at it. It has a simple stark quality that works really well. It fits the song title very well, yet is interesting within itself (several other photos match the song title but aren't good photo's on their own this week). Well done.
01/08/2003 10:23:29 PM
I think this is very creative!

This was funny but the wall had just too much noise and distortion.5.

Take my comments for what they are worth for I am just a novice with a new camera. Dodo

This is so well done that I am jealous!....Great job with the extraordinary lighting and the prop. 9
01/07/2003 05:44:00 PM
Just a teeny quibble - the light is on top of his head, not in his eyes. I still think this is a great shot.
01/07/2003 04:59:32 PM

Wonderful photo, and excelent depiction of the song. I think it portrays it perfectly. I need to get me one of these guys. hehe. The background used is not distracting, your focus and clarity are great and the angle and framing/cropping are excelent. I think that the lighting really makes the photo. Great shot. Good luck in the challenge.
