COLOR MY WORLD (Chicago)

As time goes on I realize
Just what you mean to me
And now, now that you're near
Promise your love
That I've waited to share
And dreams of our moments together
Color my world with hope of loving you

Hi from the UK...(LEEDS)..

U know, when i was at college last year, I did a study of my 'slinky'(same multi-coloured type-found it on the floor in a supermarket- some poor kid must still be missing it!!)-sounds boring, very fun making it! I did loads of still pictues, one very similar to this one...
Also made a music video with my slinky as the star of the vid! I used a roll of mirror(bad relecting properties-gave off focus images)because it was rolled up the sheet was rippled, so...I stuck one end to my wardrobe the other to the floor. Positioned the camera. Held one end of the slinky and let it dangle, spin and generally dance around. Then zoomed in on the reflections on the mirror- the effect was the the ripples in the mirror made the slinky appear to be different length's over the bulge of the ripple- also it kinda looked etheral, like heat rising ?(if you get me)- I did get a bit obsessed with my slinky- can you tell!

Also used it with a strobe light in a dark room and the mirror. When I spun the slinky, it made it appear to skip from one position to the other- kinda trippy on the naked eye- not recommended for repeated use, but the effect is quite mesmerising...anyhoo... hope this all makes sense, got a bit excited typing! Play around with your slinky more...they're great.

Creativity is thy name Grayce. Thought this was a winner at first glance. I am surprised to learn this was shot with natural light!

Congrats!

I found this colorful slinky in a store and immediately knew I wanted to photograph it. I'm so glad I was able to incorporate it into the "Song" challenge. I was drawing a blank for the challenge. Then as an "aside" I just started shooting my new toy...lol Then I suddenly recalled the first song my hubbie and I danced to at our wedding and BINGO!
About the lighting...I just used natural light from a nearby window, on my porch. I have since used different backgrounds, and positions, and will soon try different lighting.

Gracious --

What a great idea. This very well deserves a high ranking on the challenge.

Big question -- Is that a multi-colored slinky that you used?

Color is absolutely great. The only thing that I would disagree on is the backlighting. I'm not sure on the reddish cast.

This is one picture that didn't need to follow the rule of thirds!

I could gush, and go on and on about what this picture has. I love it so much, I am making it one of my favorites.

Congrats on your placing in this week's challenge. It was so well deserved.

Everyone loves a slinky.
01/07/2003 03:07:34 AM
Very well done. Nice border, nice crop, great colors, great lighting.
01/06/2003 10:09:41 PM
Who would have thought looking at a slinky could be almost beautiful. I think it would be a little more striking with a bright white background, but it still works. The only other thing I see are the res lines running parallel with the green part, but being newer in digital photography, I cannot explain, they just distract from the over all effect. 7.

Take my comments for what they are worth for I am just a novice with a new camera. Dodo
