I've seen the gentleman around town before. Once at the Javits Center during the Photo Plus Expo. But this would be the first good shot I got.

I saw him from a far but he might've seen me first. I got off a few shots before getting a shot from the front. Have one with just him in the frame but I liked the connection the two subjects had and I think her smile makes the shot. His pose seems like something that's really part of his personality, almost hard wired.

As you can see he was already partially posed ;)

I did get to talk to him after I got the photo(s). He's rather nice. I found out that the camera he holds does indeed work. I saw it in action. Sort of an old style Polaroid. He'll take a shot of you, for a fee. This was taken about a block across away from the Strand Bookstore. I highly recommend anyone visiting NYC to go and browse the photography section on the 2nd floor.

The outtake was taken days later, last late afternoon before rollover. Which perhaps is more purely street. Which is why I pushed hard and kept on looking. But, the posted shot had that feel good something and I felt it was better overall. Also hadn't much time to drive into the city again. It was a toss up till the end.

It's like there's a wall here separating today from yesterday. Although the man is holding a classic, he too looks like someone that was a strong part of that era. What a wonderful blend of two worlds.
