Are the images and/or offending voters being DQ'd or just a removal of the votes and adjusting the scores?
10/27/2006 11:31:41 PM · #27
Which challenges were affected?

And will the adjustments in scores have had an impact on the final scores of the WPL2???

Only challenges during the WPL were affected. The "friend" votes were removed and results recalculated, but there were so few discarded votes that the effect on placement was minimal.

Even if my team had given me 10s, my scores still would suck. Lucky for me I was with a great bunch of people who are strong photographers. Lucky for me they don't mind me hanging around for another season!

I'm too inept to have the sig line
;)

But we're very proud about how well we suck. Not everyone can suck well, you know. It takes a certain, umm, something. We just don't know what.

So were the people involved temporarily or permanently suspended? Also how many members are we talking about here? The WPL3 season starts this weekend right? I would hope if they were not suspended permanently that they at least be removed from the WPL league.

Temporarily and 6 - please no names, it's not needed.

As for being removed from WPL, that's outside of this.

wow. glad i have rant threads turned off for sure now...

good on the SC and admins for finding this out and taking care of it. i hope they give scott the names so he can suspend them from wpl3... i don't wanna know who it is and don't care who it is, but i sure would rather have them sit out a season, at minimum. silly.

judi : don't worry... if the recalculations have any effect on scores, you still won't have to change your sig line to add that cute red ribbon i have in mine...

dahkota : yes, we were quite lucky to have you on the team. you were a great asset... no qbert... i said she was a great asset, not that she has a... oh, nevermind...

speaking of underexposed, does everyone realize we only lost once? all season? that's a pretty good record, huh?

Seems a moot point to be removed from the WPL. When WPL3 starts and they are unable to enter challenges they won't be able to participate.

Leroy doesn't suck - he is a good photographer. Kinky maybe but not sucky.

Hi everyone,
As you know Langdon has investigated the WPL to see if any photographers and/or teams were involved in bad voting practices to give them or their team an edge in the WPL. The WPL is a side challenge that is not sponsored by DPChallenge but does run parallel to DPChallenge by using its challenges to create a team score. Since any bad voting habits would negatively impact DPChallenge the investigation was essential as a few DPChallenge members were concerned. I (WPL) complied with all request from DPChallenge and will continue to do so in the future to ensure that all teams and photographers vote within the spirit of the rules set forth by DPChallenge.

It̢۪s with regret that I have to announce that six photographers were found to have violated DPChallenge voting rules while participating in the WPL. Without naming these individuals I have suspended them from the WPL3. They will be suspended from the WPL for no less than three consecutive seasons. If they were not participating in the current season there three-season suspension will begin with the WPL4. The WPL will not take lightly anyone violating it rules or the rules of DPChallenge.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me. Please do not contact me asking the individuals names. DPChallenge have kept their names private and the WPL will also. I̢۪m sure it will not take long for people to figure out who they are but let̢۪s play by the rules.

The WPL would like to thank DPChallenge for allowing us to run our side challenges and we would also like to apologize for the few people that did not play by the rules. I would like to thank the vast majority of WPL participants for their fairness in voting in the mist of competition.

With this said, WPL3 – Let’s have fun.
Thanks,
SDW

Thank you, Scott. :)

The mere existance of teams involved, even peripherally, in individual challenges will always arouse suspicion. I'm sure the urge to cheat is high, and the opportunity is certainly there. Unfortunately if all the teams were to cheat, while the results would be neutral to the WPL competitions, it would have a very negative impact for those DPChallenge members who either chose not to or otherwise cannot participate. (Just to say that IMHO a temporary suspension is light punishment.)

Since when have the perpetrators of vote fraud been granted anonymity when caught? I seem to remember numerous admin threads just like this when the account in question was identified and then people went back and forth about if for weeks.
