Different jurors are critical to the process. Each of our jurors brought different views and personal styles of photography to the table. I thought that was beneficial, in that it forced jurors to explain and defend their view of images that resonated with them but not as much with others. I think it would also be interesting to see a jury formed from people with a cohesive point of view, to explore a certain style of image in depth, starting from a common viewpoint.
When I started this process, I had envisioned that, if it worked, I might run (as a facilitator, not a juror) a series of juried challenges tied to the monthly Free Studies. Each month would be a different topic ... macro, street, portrait, what have you ... announced in advance and then all entries fitting that style would be judged by a different panel of respected members and users each month, with each panel including some experts in that chosen genre for that month.
I would still like to see something like that occur, but at this point I don't have any plans to do it. New blood is critical at that end too. |
I would have loved to have heard the discussion. It would have been fascinating to hear people debate the images and come to a conclusion. My dream would be a rotating panel of judges for free studies for the next number of months. But then give the judges their own forum that only they can write to, but others can read -- just can't comment and mess up the forum. The thought process about what works, what doesn't, what resonates, pointing out things that others might not see, etc., would be more interesting than the results themselves (unless I came up the blue ribbon winner!) |

I guess I haven't been paying attention (just found this thread) -
Congratulations to all those who received awards! There were so many terrific entries (81 to be exact) to choose from that I can't believe mine was given honorable mention. So, thanks for that but even more, thanks for giving me a reason to post my best of in black and white! It was a very fun side challenge and a very, very long week of voting and commenting (worth every minute, I might add). Much obliged to EstimatedEyes for taking the time to organize this.
And to the jury members for their dedication and efforts.
- hope to meet again sometime!

I wouldn't want to be on the jury every time...I want a chance to win. ;)
People need to realize that the best way to accomplish the particular way you'd like to see something like this run is to do it yourself. Part of the whole grass roots plan was to give people the impetus to do something. |

I've been caught up in several things going on that this response goes under the category - better late than never:-)
Congrats to all the winners - love how the winning entries have a 'judges' commentary on them!
Thanks to EstimatedEyesfor organizing this challenge and too a big thanks to the time and effort the judges Bear_Music Dr.Confuser DrAchooand bspurgeon spend in discussing all the entries. |
