as far as relevance go .. i know this topic has got nothing to do with photography

Hmm... not the same music style but if you like female voices you might like Metric and Love Outside Andromeda. Two of my fav bands.

It's more electric rock than Dido that's for sure but I think they are amazing bands.

You could check out Missy Higgins. I saw her in concert once and she reminded me A LOT of Dido. Shes from Australia too, so shes even got a similar neat accent ;)

You might try Pandora to find new stuff that is musically similar. I know I've found about 50 new artists through them that I never would have found otherwise. :)

That's the 3rd time in a week someone has mentioned Pandora. This can't be a coincidence. I'll have to wander over there when I have a free moment.

im not a fan of female singers for some reason, (prob because i like rock mainly) but check out eva cassidy. Some really good stuff there... and along that line but more upbeat, K.T. Tunstall

I just stumbled onto this singer the other day and she is now my new favorite and is kind of along the same line as Dido but maybe a little happier. :-) Regina Spektor is her name and her album is called Begin to Hope.

And I'll second KT Tunstall too. She's pretty cool.

Some that have been around awhile that might be worth checking out also are Kate Bush, Tori Amos and Sarah Mclaughlin (I'm sure I've spelled that wrong) :-)

I made up a little list of my favorite female vocal bands that have that bluesy tone.

12 Rounds - More industrial, but they do some really interesting stuff.

Alison Goldfrapp - Actually has more of an electric sound, heh. Some makes you want to hop around. Her album Felt Mountain calms down a lot.

Beth Gibbons - Used to be from Portishead. She went solo and has a much more folk sound. Great stuff.

Dahlia - Has some really good stuff. Some leans too much towards regular pop for me.

Esthero - As has been stated. Gets too poppy for me sometimes.

Fiona Apple - Fiona got a pretty bad rep back when she first got big. She's got some amazing pipes for such a little girl.

Holly McNarland - Awesome. Did I mention awesome? Here.. I'll make her name bold, because I love her so much.

Poe - Old band that's probably not together anymore.

Shivaree - Had a song on the Kill Bill soundtrack. Has a great sound and good musicians backing her.

Elysian Fields - This might be a far stretch for most. It's a pretty dark loungy feel with some very "interesting" lyrics at times. Make sure you get the right band. One is good.. the other is 80's hair metal with female vocals.

Katie Melua is worth a listen or two, as is Corrine Bailey Rae, and on the folksy tip an artist local to me ...
Stephanie Kirkham

Kate Bush and Suzanne Vega are legends.

Oh, Poe is still around. Not a band, but a She. Her given name is Anne Danielewski, and her brother, Mark Z. Danielewski, wrote "House of Leaves" and is currently nominated for a National Book Award for his latest book which I don't remember the name of offhand, but that's largely irrelevent. It's been about five years since Poe's last album, which was a sort of unofficial soundtrack to her brother's book, and there were about that many years between that one and her debut as well. Her website seems to say that she wants to release a new album but has contractual obligations that are keeping her from doing so just now (check out the news under "Tours").

If it isn't obvious, I totally love her. She's a lot darker and a lot more of a musical beat poet than Dido, but their voices are a little similar.

I remember something about that when the last album came out. It's just been so long, heh.
