Ursula....what's your opinion on this shot of mine....I posted it earlier, but I think you missed it...

Actually, this is the same peak as the blue ribbon winner for morning...obviously different angle!

cheers,

It's a beautiful shot, clean, the sky is good. You have relatively good light control in the image for the situation. The subject is a bit dark, and could possibly use a bit of brightening and a bit more contrast, something like that. The colours are nice. Composition is good.

All that said, there are a couple things against it.

(1) If you're trying to show a peak, it doesn't really do that. There is little sense of height in the photo. YOU know it's a peak, but the viewer (especially casual viewer) will not easily know that.

(2) Even though beautiful, the photo is not special except for your memory of the place. The light is rather normal, the best light is in the clouds, the light on the land is not as good.

In other words, I think it's a good clean shot, but there's little there to make it stand out, or make it really memorable. You mention that it is the same peak as the blue ribbon in "Morning", different angle. But it's also very different light, very different presentation.

And please, please, please, don't get offended, I'm assuming that we're trying to get Team Nikon-D to win, and that's what I'm doing here.

EDIT: spelling

Ursula... you cannot be serious about asking my opinion.. you are the teams best hope yohoho sorry to put that on you so close to WPL start

GO GO URSULA!!!!

I'll see how my portrait shot goes i only used the smudge tool to slightly extend something so im sure that is not a majot element for example if i took a photo of a bug with a small leg i used it to slightly extend the leg...

what you gonna do about your cam do you have a back up?
10/30/2006 09:14:08 PM · #209
No, I don't.

It's working right now, and I am thinking it will keep working for a little while at least. At least I hope so.

I am really hoping for a D200. My BD is coming up in a couple days, and, who knows. Then I'll send the D70 in to be fixed and use it as backup. Otherwise, like I said, I think and hope the D70 will continue to work for a while longer.

We'll see. But don't worry, I'll figure out something. Sooner or later I'm going to get the D200 and use the D70 for backup.

I'm working on it.

You guys know anything about the Nikkor 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 VR lens? Is it any good? I'm trying to find a good multipurpose lens that's not too heavy.

It is a nice lens, my neighbor has one on his D-80 and he said he will probably never take it off the camera.

Neon or Reflection? not sure which way I will for this one.
11/01/2006 08:32:56 AM · #217
Reflection for me dont like the idea of Neon to be honest

how are we doing in these challenges?

Free study - 5.500
Portrait - 6.000
11/01/2006 08:44:37 AM · #218
free study 4.5
landscape 5.5

early yet ...
11/01/2006 08:54:38 AM · #219
I have ideas for both. I'm going to go for Neon, but reflection is my fall back.

Free Study: 5.4615
Portrait in landscape: 5.3000

What can I say....I tried my hardest!
11/01/2006 09:18:58 AM · #220
Free Study I am sitting at 6.0
for the landscape portrait I am bombing. 3.6

I am going to blame that on the cheap monitor I have been using the past 2 weeks. My laptop screen took a crap on me and I have nothing decent to edit on til I either get it fixed or buy a new one.

11/01/2006 09:23:59 AM · #221
I'm running 5.00 in Free Study
11/01/2006 09:24:25 AM · #222
Free Study: 5.0909 (11 votes, 14 views)
Landscape in Portrait: 5.9600 (25 votes, 47 views)

At least I entered them in the correct challenge.
11/01/2006 10:38:43 AM · #223
I think my landscape portrait would probably have done better if I had entered it in the wrong challenge. lol. I might be getting my first brown ribbon. also I might do something even more rare.

I might have my personal best and worst both in the same week. Yikes!!!!

Oh well the past couple of weeks I have sort of given the backseat to the DPC challenges I have had alot of other things going on and needed to take a rest before the WPL. So I haven't put alot of effort into it.

BUT! Now the time has come to get serious. Time to rap off a bunch of 6+ photos Will be more difficult as the days pass by because Winter is approaching and alot of subjects are disappearing for the season. Less Day Light Extremely Cold Weather camera fogs up etc etc..

I have pledged to myself to start making the studio I have downstairs which I use for shooting video into a dual purpose and more photography friendly studio over the winter so I will be treating myself to some new lighting, a few new backdrops and some filters like a Lens Baby over the course of winter.

I am totally ready for this. Lets go KSA! Show the rest of the DPC Gang that NIKON D is the team and the camera series of the ages.

GO TEAM!!!!!!!!
