Little shock today, thought this challenge would start after tomorrow's announcement. But I'm in! |

Now I'm confused. I had thought it started with tonight's entry (Heida-Style or Back-to-School), but apparently it doesn't start until the challenges that are announced tonight at midnight. Right?

Apparently it started last week with tonight entries (as far as I understand) |

According to our host, we are full. No more openings.
And: Start Date:
The first hole will be for the challenges announced at midnight on September 8th, and submitted on September 15th, and will continue for each round of open challenges for 9 weeks until the tournament is done.

Lydia is right, the challenge that is announced tonight at midnight will be week #1. VitaminB's computer died, so he hasn't been able to come online to remind people.
Announcement made in this thread

WTH? OK, I'm whining, but it sucks that the first week of this challenge we are only offered one challenge topic.

Yes, I would prefer to have 2 options to choose from. But don't forget.... Mulligan! :) |

It looks like it is a nod to our little tourney. 9 holes of golf and what not. I am surprised no one started a thread to discuss what it means to DPC to only have one open challenge and that even more important people aren't complaining about it. :P |

That makes sense. I can't figure what other advantage there is in only offering one open challenge this week. It's not like choosing two topics creates much more work for the site admins... assuming most procedures are automated by this point. |

Langdon is the only one who can set the challenge topics to appear at rollover. |

I think the change up is a bit fun. Everyone doing the same challenge.
I like the 'wildness' of going against the norm. *grin* |

Sure, but think what it leads to. Soon everyone will be doing it in the streets and frightening the horses. |

definitely not this, 09/09/09 is epic and previous challenges based on numbers like this can attest for the choice of 'Nine'. One open challenge just adds to the epicness, and from my view these types of challenges(number ones) usually promote good entries.
just what other open challenge could counter this? and who would want to enter it?

good point, I think you are probably closer to the real reason for the single 9 challenge. Maybe they should have had three separate 9 challenges for 09/09/09 and then you could pick which one you wanted to enter. :) |

or 'Negative Nine' gasp! 9 and -9 would have been more epicnessful |

I am guessing that on December 12 2012 there will be a 'Dozen' Challenge :D
I think its kind of fun that we have one challenge... aside from the free studies, we havent had a huge challenge since the Hidden Gem challenge in March, so it would be nice to see 400+ entries in this one. Hopefully everyone can get out and shoot for 9.

Maybe I should shoot mine tonight at 9:09:09 pm? Nah, it would be dark and uninteresting then. Plus I would have to find a good subject that represents the #9 while taking a 9 second exposure. |

I'm a leaning to the "one challenge, but it's freaking basic editing?" bleccchh.

I'm considering setting up a little DPC Golf Fantasy League spreadsheet.
Participants select 5 photographers from the list of DPC golfers, making up their fantasy team and points are awarded to based on the performance of those in their team. Transfers can be made, maximum of one per round perhaps. One of the 5 would be a designated substitute, whose score will only count if one or more of the other four photographers do not submit a photo for the round.
To keep it simple, points system would mirror that of the tournament, so your team score for each hole would be the sum of scores for the 4 photographers in play for your team (defaults to nominated starting 4... a sub is made automatically is one or more of your starting 4 doesn't submit an entry).
I guess I'd have to set a salary cap on the team too... I guess this can be based on the handicaps...
So... based on the average handicap, times by 5, rounded to the nearest whole number, the salary cap for the team would be 295.
Any interest in such a side-side-challenge?
If so... let me know here and I'll set something up... perhaps PM me your team of 5, with an indication of which is to be your sub.
Edit to fix errors and add sub option.
