Rejection #2 for 2009. 38 to go. :-)
The screener's comment was quite kind, I thought. I do think the comments are valid. I shall persist with my pinhole experiments, though, in hopes of getting a few more I think are worthy to try. This one is one of my favorites thus far in the adventure.
Comment from screener: Beautiful image, very moody, but not quite finished or put together enough as a whole to make it onto the front page. It depends a lot of how it was made, but, for it to work, it would also have to have solid content, and there it is lacking a bit.
Comments from members: love pinhole images but this one doesn't lift itself above just being a blur IMO
Its not about the equipment.
Additional feedback: Of those who voted against your image, ten indicated that there is a problem with impact, five noted technical quality as a weakness and two selected editing as a reason for not publishing the image.

You can have noisy and soft only if you also have moody... |

2 more rejects:
because "The white balance in the photo is not correct or it's over-saturated/washed out or there are strange colorcasts."
because "It's a good photo, but it doesn't stand out that much. A photo might be technically perfect, but it also has to affect the viewer." |

Placing in the "1x compu-translator 2000"...
Translation for #1: It's not black and white
Translation for #2: It's not moody.

You just had a nearly identical shot to #2 posted a week ago, so you only have yourself to blame for setting the bar so high... //1x.com/photos/latest-additions/21628/ |

OP note - I do not wish this to be a "Let's bash 1x.com" thread. 'Tis a nice site, has a different "feel" than here, features some very good artists. Instead, I kinda hope we can keep this thread to posting rejects for your viewing pleasure and possible feedback. But yeah, you can complain a bit about your rejections - that's good, too. :-)

There are indeed some really lovely images in this thread! While I do check the front page there, I also check the "Critiques" page - you'll find some of the other rejects - some real gems at times. |

I've been wondering why none of the images posted here have been dropped in the critique section on the site that is rejecting them. Seems to be poor form to piss on 1x from here w/o even participating in a forum there where you might actually learn something about their expectations, how your shot fell short, etc. |

I'm under the impression that you use up your slots to enter them in the critique section as well. Is this true? Some of us rejects only get 1-2 slots a week... :) |

Great questions, and I'll answer you for myself (since who knows what anyone else's motivation is). First, feel free to call me out if you ever see me piss on 1x from here. I may have had only rejections so far, but I'm not complaining and I think 1x is a super cool site. I'm posting my rejections here so that I can share in the fun with my fellow DPC buddies. I'm not posting them on 1x because this is all a game to me. I'm trying to see if I can get any of my old DPC challenge entries accepted over there just based on my personal impression of what they want. |

I've submitted 2 of my rejects for critique. I'll probably do some more. I find the comments and interpretations helpful. |

Just a suggestion here. I saw that one in screening, but you had also posted it here while it was still in screening.
I didn't vote either way because of that.
I think we should post pictures here only after they've been rejected or published. |
