Face it, we're not all graced with one of these fancy and wonderful contraptions called a lens baby. In fact, probably very few of us are. Therefore, here is the January side challenge for the rest of us:

January. For the northern hemisphere, it is mostly a time of cold, and gray, and misery. The holidays have passed us by, the new year has begun with some hope, but will quickly fade to the realization that it will be another 3 months (approximately) of never-ending winter. It is the prospect of a very long stretch without a long-weekend. It is short days and long nights (although the days are getting longer, yay!), and it can be downright miserable to get through it.

So your challenge for January, should you choose to accept it, is to get out there and find some way of shooting the concept of WARMTH. You can do this on a daily basis if you wish, or you can be as scatter-brained with it as you like. Just keep in mind the usual caveats of this kind of challenge and try and comment on other people's shots as much as you can. Let us say a ratio of 3 comments to every photo you yourself put up. This is, of course, on your own merit, so try as hard as you can.

Usually people sign up and start a list, but that hasn't really been working lately, so I'm going to run it a bit different. If you wish to participate, do so. Plug a photo in here giving us your concept of warmth as often as you can. Let's try and alleviate some of the January Blues. Welcome one and all.

January 1st is the start date (obviously)

I know that there is no signup, but I just want to query whether I will be eligible for this. I live in Australia and January is usually hot. If that is still okay then I'll be happy to jump in.

I think your shots should convey the concept of Warmth quite easily:)) Might have something to do with the weather down there. Also, it will make us feel even worse each time we see nice sunny weather, then look out at the snow, frost and rain in grey gloomy days:)

I am planning to attempt my first PAD blog starting January 6th when I get back in the country. I think I will dedicate the first month of it to "warmth" and will post and comment here. Great idea, and I'm sure going to need some warm thoughts to get me through next month. Another 6 inches of snow on the way tonight :/

This will be the challenge for me, I think. I don't think LB is my thing. ;) Hopefully all my computer compatibility issues are resolved now and I'll be able to stick with it for the whole month this time!

I'll bump this once a week until after Christmas and then once a day until the 31st.

Bump.

Looks like there's a bunch of other side challenges, but this is still a go for anyone interested.

I'm Sorry, you live in Ballarat, isn't it always freezing there.........

Sounds like fun Ed! Norway is usually at its coldest in January but I look at warmth as something different than heat so it shouldn't be too much of a disadvantage.

Thanks for taking the initiative! :)

This is a side challenge I can "warm" up to :) I live in Vermont....

I live in Texas, where, well. ..yesterday I went and tried to take photos of wildlife at our Wildlife Preserve, and it was so warm that the animals all had their tongues hanging out panting. I'll try to come up with "warmth" that looks creative and interesting tho. I miss being in the side challenges

Second to last Bump. I'll bump it again tomorrow morning.

Last bump. Please be aware that the thread for posting your images in is right here

I know that there are a few side-challenges this month. Seems we all are excited to start something, so hopefully we get at least a half-decent showing.

Have fun everyone, look forward to seeing a little bit of warmth. (Remember, warmth can mean a whole lot of things, and doesn't necessarily mean physicality.)

Well, thanks. I have a new camera (XMas present) & going lensbaby at this time is just too much new information for me. I've always avoided SLR cameras & now I have one. Big change. Hoping I can get some good criticism from SLR people, I will be posting to this warm challenge as often as I can. Thanks!
