Inspiration and opportunity can come in waves. How long has it been since the last shot you felt meant something to you? Looking back, I think mine would be since May. I actually really enjoyed the last two shots of Laine (Color Studio Portrait and Brothers Grimm), but I'm biased there so I'd have to look back to 5/18 and this shot:
I love the color and composition and feel this is among the best of the few dozen waterfall shots I've done.
How about you? How long has it been? Do you feel like you are in a slump? or are you currently riding high?

It would have to be this one:
which is a Color Studio Portrait III outtake. I didn't enter it because this version is advanced editing and it didn't look particularly excellent in basic...
(thumb links to Flickr, not DPC)
Most of my photos are either commemorative snapshots or set-up shots that went bad somewhere...the Color in B&W shots and the CSPIII shots are actually the first shots that I've taken that I've really loved.

My last entry which is this one:
I think more because of the effort that went inot getting it than the technical merit or the shot. For the most part the shots I'm the most happy with are normally not ones I end up entering in challenges, as wierd as that is. |

I absolutely loved how this one turned out:
It isn't the most recent one, as I just got back from Europe and have some phenomenally pleasing shots, but i haven't gotten them processed yet, so i'll post this one for now.

My last Free Study Image. For a few different reasons. |

Among some other shots in my gallery, any time I go visit my brother and help them document my niece's growing up, those are the photos that mean the most to me. They'll never win any awards by any stretch of the imagination, but they are always exciting to take and amazing to share. |

Lat week, I took my camera to work for the first time since I moved to the helicopter. I got a few, but this one is really nice. Hand held at 1600 ISO, I believe.

When I saw that I couldn't believe it was shot at ISO 1600, but then I saw your camera! |

This was taken at a rainy, grey, airshow near to us - handheld. |

This is one of those shots where I walked up, saw the scene, and really, really liked what I saw, and really liked what I saw on the display, too. I'm actually pretty pleased with some of my shots for the purposes they are taken - most of 'em are tourist shots, not DPC ribbon winners, and in that light, if I capture some of what I saw/experienced that day, then I'm happy with it. |

This was taken Friday evening. I worked late and caught this on my way home. It's this place open for business.
I guess I'm not especially critical -- I usually get a shot I really like almost every time I go out. I've given up on most of the challenges, though, because my taste and the voters' taste have taken wildly divergent paths. |

Two challenges that I have been really happy with is
My Music Box (July 2008)
Love the happy feel of this composition, plus the lovely smile of my model;-)
Took alot of Pre-Production work to get this looking like what I visualized in my head. This final piece was from the 2nd photoshoot to get it right.
The Roundup: Go Git 'Em, Zane! (June 2008)
Love the feel, look, and mood of the composition. I wanted to capture some of the spirit of the old west akin to what one sees in Frederic Remington sculptures.
And as for shooting outside of challenges - no I am not in a slump as I was occupied for the better part of the month of September with PP(pre-production) and shooting for the Duckoplis calendar which was great fun putting together.

A few from this past Friday. I can't speak for others, but I can honestly say every time I pick up my camera and simply just walk out my back door or even just into the next room, I end up with a shot I am totally psyched about. Then again, I shoot in an entirely selfish manner...if others like what I do, it only adds to the sweetness. |

last weekend was my best day ever for getting pictures.
i got up at five thirty on my day of to get them, and it paid off.
these are the kind of shots i have been dreaming of taking since i got my camera 2 years ago!
just a shame it was 2 days before the wildlife challenge started!

Slump for me. Does anyone want to buy a camera and lens?

Dain, Boston.com has one that could have been yours. Nice work. Richmond Park...I'm guessing???
Pictures I'm happy with....hmmm

I had a nice little run with a newly acquired D700. New gear seems to inspire me...or at least get me out with refreshed energy. Since I go into hibernation during the winter months, I feel ok because I will have to live off of these for a while.

steve
thanks for the comment, and for sharing that website.
that guy must have been getting his shots exactly the same time in the same park as me.
11th October's sunrise!
I have never seen such good light before. I was there again the same time both days this weekend and didn't get one shot. Can't win them all!

I'm so jealous of guys like you and Alex having access to those beautiful creatures and what a coincidence that you and the Boston.com guy were out on the exact same day and time. I was staying in Teddington on my last pass through London, right down the road from Bushy Park but I was out too late each night or too lazy to get out early and shoot. Richmond Park is better than Bushy and I'm making it a point to get out bright in the AM my next visit.
