and flowers and birds and dogs etc but especially water drops.

WTF is the big deal, constantly putting snide comments into what seems like every single thread about water drops. Why, who cares if a photograph has been done 209385209348502934 times. Who cares if everyone then wants to try it out. For some it is the first tiem they have ever tried to do something like this. It is really friggin hard to do. It takes skill to pull it off. So what if you now have seen a water drop dropping in 0985620956820895 ways.

I find it to be so disrespectful of the photographer to bitch and moan about other peoples shots like this. I bet they just wish they had the same amount of skill in their little finger than the people who can make these shots.

If I had an ignore button I would use it, but then it would kill me not to know what was said, so that button would be useless.

I also would like to send them my medical bill for strained eyeball syndrome as I have rolled them so friggin much they are sprained.

Greetings, Robert!

Recently I have been contacted by the publishingcompany Lark Bark (a division of Barnes & Noble) regarding your Picture of the Day "Net Shot Gerbera X" that appeared on September 19, 2005.

The company is producing a how-to book about takingwinning pictures. They loved your picture and areinterested in using it in the book.

If you are interested, I need your permission to pass along your name and e-mail address to the company. They will then contact you to further explain the book, the image file requirements, and the remuneration which I believe is a $xxxx (not much, not at all, but something at least) honorarium and a free book if your picture is selected for publication.

Please reply and let me know if you are interested andif I can share your name and e-mail address with Lark.

Best regards,

Marianna O'Brien
Editor, Kodak Picture of the Day

So take heart. Always shoot for you first and if it flies, it flies.

I completely understand and agree. It isn't just the comments, but the general attitude towards repeat subjects.

I can understand getting tried of someone taking the same shot over and over again, but not someone sharing their first water drop, ghosting, flare, silhouette, pinhole, etc. shots. Someone is always new and exploring new ground, and likewise someone is always new and looking for new ideas.

I have never done a water drop shot for a challenge, but have tried it at home to try and capture it. It is tough and when you get it , you want to do it again and again and again.

And Mep, I think you didnt read my post correctly

I get pissed off by people that constantly over-congratulate something that probably doesn't deserve it, which happens over and over and over on this site.

That's the thing about a place like this, we're all going to have our own views and likes and dislikes and pet peeves and some of us are going to be more vocal about them than others.

So be happy being pissed off, because I enjoy it too!

It might be the fact that the water drop shots tend to win â€Â¦

Maybe the general angst against them is the perception that people shoot with the intention of getting a good score or a ribbon RATHER THAN doing something new or meaningful.

Another thing is - people know that they are difficult to shoot. It's like making fun of people that are rich and successful â€Â¦ it's a defense mechanism.

No worries. I just hope people with new ideas are rewarded as much as those who practice the common ones.

THAT was a very insightful comment! And you responded so quickly and right at the exact moment where it was most effective! You really should post more in the forums. You really seem to have a grasp on what's going on. WOW that was a good one !!!! ;P

OK, so you only want comments that tell you what you want to hear in future then?? riiiiiight.. and if they don't like the shot, they don`t have any talent... am I reading that right?

Personally I don`t really like water-drop shots. I respect they may be tricky to get, but ultimately they bore me. does this somehow dilute any talent I may have now I have expressed an anti-waterdrop shot opinion? according to your opinion it does..

now to go find some water drop shots in the freestudy and give them a 1..

Well pardon me for being my own person and knowing what I do and don't like.

I'm not here to win friends and devotion. I'm here to have fun and find distraction and give myself a reason to pick up my camera from time to time. I'm not interested in happy happy joy joy, staying quiet about things I'm peeved about, or babysit anyone.

I just find it a little funny (and slightly ironic) that you'd post a thread calling out people for being vocal about something as if you're not essentially doing the exact same thing.

I respect your opinion and obviously I understand that something silly can wind up making someone so angry (being angry about the love for 'water drops' -- the generic catchphrase for all that I get peeved about -- is VERY silly, I admit it), but I also understand that other people have a right to feel the way they do and a right to speak out against it if they wish.

As you said, there's an easy fix to this, and that's to not read posts of that nature if it gets you too worked up.

I am talking about how a person can make a snide comment in nearly every thread about water drops. Simms, you read it all wrong. I am talking about people that are out right rude to say IreneM on her shots. Snide comments about her work and how many ribbons she has won, I will go and find the ones I am talking about so you can judge what I am saying.

Maybe this adds a take on shots you feel are over done:
I said:
nice shot, but i think it has been used a couple times in challenges. If you are like me and try to replicate cool shots - well done! I'll vote on that idea to keep you in a nice score range ;)
regarding an entry from IreneM

there was a nice exchange regarding that. All was very pleasant and kind - in the spirit of this learning site. I felt silly calling IreneM out at being herself and made a post "...I had no idea you were being you"
just something to consider - given I took time to chose my words to not be hurtful to a potential newbie trying out new techniques.

My friend sbarberio says "there's always a nice way to say something that might be negative"

I try and make it a point not to call anyone out specifically, and especially not personally.

implied can be very thinly veiled can still be personal KD. People still know who you are talking about.

Anyways, rant over, just had to get it off my chest!

You should have looked at the entry comments - it was all there, seemingly quite private and not actually "calling" anyone out.
apparently this thread is too literal.

I wanted to point out a kind exchange between members, but I guess I missed the mark. I thought it was nice anyway.

I disagree. People can guess who one might be talking about, and still be completely wrong.

If I decide one day to go on a diatribe about people that put recognizable subjects in their challenge entries repeatedly, you can assume that I could be talking about Timfythetoo yes? However, he's hardly the only one that does it, doesn't mean I'd be calling him out personally, even in implication. (Sorry Tim, this was an easy example. heh)
