I don't normally vote in challenges that i have entered, but due to all of the controversy, i had to check this one out. What i can say, is that I saw a ton of really great entries that i thought were excellent for the challenge. I also saw a lot of things that I personally wouldn't consider abstract at all. Given that "abstract" is so open to interpretation, i approach it like every other challenge. If I feel it's a DNMC, I don't vote on it. I might leave a comment, i might not. But if the shot was abstract to you, who am I to say it's not. It's very different than say "purple." It's either purple or it isn't...right.
I think there must be a lot of entries out there that are scoring really well and just aren't participating in this thread, cause i saw a lot of really great stuff. |

Agreed, there are so many awesome shots in this challenge. Tough challenge to do. I'm sure everyone's scores will be fairly accurate to what they should be. |

Is it just me, or are comments trickling in slower than usual on this challenge?
Is everyone afraid of sounding like they have no idea what they're talking about?
Well, here's my challenge:
Get thee to Google. Research Abstract Photography. Choose 10 random images to comment on, and try and leave a comment based on what you've learned.

My average has gone up a little tonight, seems I've had a couple of generous people awarding me 6s :) Tomorrow I'm going to attempt to comment on some more pics, just pointing out what I like rather than offering any suggestions, I'm less likely to get shouted at that way. Or so I hope.

I'm in no way ripping on you, lots of people feel the way you do. It's a sad day here when people stop commenting because people retaliate. I've got plenty of comments that I don't agree with, and I've never felt the urge to single someone out in a PM or in a thread. What would be the point?

Was at a high at 5.02 at around 65 votes, just praying I can keep on to 4.9 now which looks very unlikely - I was tempted to pull the shot from the challenge at one point but I guess we are all here to learn, right? The challenge though seems to be learning what to submit that is DPC friendly rather than entering what might otherwise be determined as a well conceived and executed shot, IMHO.

Appreciate you not pulling out from the contest, you are setting the right example for a newbie like me. I hate to see guys, esp. senior ones with awards and all, pulling out, and that makes me wonder how they have kept their avg so high. Funny, and easy, innit? Just pull out if you dont feel you are getting the right votes.. heh.

Still going good (from my expectations). I also saw 2 dropouts since yesterday. I think we started at 318.. now only 316 in the run.

You're penalized for pulling shots for just the reason of a low score. If by chance you get another DQ in the next 10 challenges you're cut off from entering for two weeks. I don't think the idea you have of self pulling shots can be abused to keep a high avg. Especially if you want to continue to participate here and have loads of challenges under your belt. |

If you want to ride the plane into the ground, stay strapped in. Some people prefer to bail out. If there was anything wrong with the latter, there wouldn't be parachutes within arm's reach. |
