Heh people!! I'm going to be in Tyson's Corner, VA, while my husband is at dealer school so I was wondering if anyone is up to the heat for doing something. That Thursday or Friday are the only days I could do it. SJCarter and I have been trying to figure out something for us all to do. My son, Grayson 13, will tag along as well. The zoo? Would we all melt?
Any takers?

Could be interesting...although I'd have to take a day off (Friday). You can count me as a "maybe".
There are nice areas just around Tysons that could be interesting if you didn't want to go into DC - Great Falls park, or Meadowlark Gardens, to name a couple. |

Oh anything with falls sounds cool. Since I am totally unfamiliar, I'm up for anything. Let's see if we get a response from anybody else. :~) |

here's some links :)
Great Falls
Meadowlark Gardens
Mason Neck
Reston Zoo
All the above except for Mason Neck are about 10-15 minutes away from Tysons, I think. Mason Neck is probably about 20-25 minutes.

Thanks. They all sound terrific. I have to admit I'm a sucker for a zoo. Isn't the National Zoo in DC? |

Absolutely. :) I was just trying to give you options that might not be as crowded with tourists, in July. |

I'll be around and would be up for a zoo trip or any one of the parks nearby, or we could get historical and go out to a Civil War battlefield or a Colonial mansion. Tourists are unavoidable in the summer but there are tons of interesting places that are not overrun with them (for instance, George Mason's home on Mason Neck is less popular than Mt. Vernon by a long shot). You are right that we'll be risking melting but I'm sure we can manage ... pretty sure, anyway. |

Thanks for the heads up, Mary. I'm from Texas so I'm used to the heat. Maybe we can call it the "Sweatathon." ROFL |

Looks like it is going to be the Nat'l Zoo on Friday the 18th. SJCarter is in Calgary and then going to Los Angeles for a wedding, so we will make exact plans at the last minute. Anyone still interested? |

Judy I was hoping that you would choose the Zoo on Friday. I've really wanted to shoot there. I'll PM you.

I'd love to get together that weekend, but I just two weeks off, so I can't do Friday. Are you and Jimmy free Thursday evening?

You could PM me. I might be able to make morning and lunch. But I have an afternoon obligation that means leaving DC no later than 3 or 3:30. (Tough day that Friday....) Earlier in the week would be much better for me if you're around and want some company. |

What are you all doing that night? I can't take the day off, but could hook up with you that evening. Would be glad to conduct a guided tour of night photography in DC. :)
Hint, hint:

There is also the national arboretum for during the day Thursday if you like. Plus the mall, the monuments, the museums, the people, the tourists...
Thursday day is much easier for me than Friday, but I can swing a couple of hours Friday.
Thursday night and Friday night I'm in if anyone is shooting. |

I can get off around 6, or even 5:30, but I'd want to go home and get my car. So call it 7:00 to start shooting, and we could easily run you over to Union Station by 10.

I know my husband (that's why we are coming because his work paid for us to join) has his final day of class that day so he might want to do family stuff that night, but I'm not sure. I think night photography would be awesome although I'm so bad at it. I'll leave it up to you guys. I know he wouldn't mind if I really wanted to do it and he and my son could do something that evening and I could just continue on with you guys. One friend in his class is having us to dinner and I hope it isn't Friday night. LOL |

It looks like a good crowd for Friday. Is there any interest in going out together for dinner after we finish at the Zoo? I'll be going out sometime in the evening with my cousin who lives nearby. So I'm not sure about dinner with her or with a DPC group. Anyway I will miss any opportunity to shoot night pics Friday. I would like to shoot more on Saturday and then take night pics after dark Saturday and drive home when I finish. |

I'd be up for absorbing all of Jeffrey's DC night shot expertise! Or as much of it as he can impart in a few hours. I've left Thursday and Friday open for DPC activities so I'll just keep an eye on this thread for anything resembling a schedule (besides Friday daytime at the zoo; that's on my calendar in INK). |
