i've always thought it was exquisitely cruel to put creatures with superb hearing inside what is basically a huge amplifier (but i don't know a better way...). i know my dog loathes them...

Susan, for whatever reason, some people just HATE zoom lenses.

I have a 28-300 Tammy that's become my 95%+ lens......yeah it has limitations, but overall the lens has been a wonderful addition to my life.

It does NOT have IS/VR, but I've been pretty happy with it anyway.

If you don't expect unreasonable things from it, you'll love it.

No way would I ever trust just one review, and the three people who responded to my thread on the most versatile lens for the D40 were unanimous. How often does that happen?

There you go then :)

I had some misgivings about my earlier post - didn't want to burst your balloon - it's a terrific lens. I sort of had to learn to use it...

I just purchased the new Nikon 18-55 VR. I believe they just released it within the last few months. I bought it on Friday and it was my main lens for a shoot all day on Saturday. It performed very well and paid for itself in just that one shoot. It is only $199 retail! It does have the crappy plastic base (where it connects to the camera), and it is pretty slow at f3.5- 5.6, but hey, what more do you want for that kind of money. I read the Pop Photo mag review of it and it tested very well. From my own experience I am also impressed.

If anyone else shooting Nikon wants something to cover the wide to normal range I would reccomend it.

100+ vote check in on my crime scene picture, looks like I have a new #2, but at the rate of climb it might become a new #1 all it needs is a little .03 push : )..

Well, I did have to put it on this evening cause she was going at her sutures, so now she's a p.o.'d little conehead, poor thing! I'll probably sleep downstairs with her tonight so she doesn't feel isolated.

Druli was a bit of a prick, probably cause she smells like the vet's...he charged at her in a clear show of intimidation, stopping short. She hissed at him and jumped to safety, I scolded Druli and tossed him outside. I mean gawd the three of us had an uneventuful catnap this afternoon on my bed! And I told him she was coming back.

Wow! I just looked through the Crime Scene photos and there are some amazing shots. so much time and effort went into them. Very impressive. :)

Susan - glad you took her in when you did! And yes, cats always treat other cats who've come from the vet with some sort of disdain and perhaps fear when they come back. I'm sure it's the way they smell. Should be fine in a day or so.

As for those collars - I agree with Christian - seems inordinately cruel to add hearing amplification. Perhaps they need to be lined with something to muffle the sound? But it beats having them pull stitches early!

And Kelli, how's your expensive pooch doing with the new green leg?
06/18/2008 06:12:27 AM · #910
I know you're right, Deb, it's the vet smell that got to Druli. Still that's the most aggressive I've ever seen him act towards another animal, unprovoked. Looked like a linebacker trying to intimidate a jockey. Duuuuuhhhh. Got a very grateful email from the previous owner, she was very glad that I'd had Lily spayed so soon.

I do have a radio on in the den for Lily to listen, to but keep the volume veddy veddy low anyway cause she's a cat, and now a conehead cat. She's learning to manage with it, I replaced her normal kibble put some big chunky kibble that's easier for her to get at. And she likes it more, it'll help put some weight on her skinny little frame. Still amazed that an abscess the size of a ping-pong ball could've been lurking in that little body.

And good point about the doggie...so long as the leg is only green with Vetrap and not gangrene, lol!

It's funny, he spent the whole first night trying to chew it off. LOL! When that didn't work, he decided that it made a good sympathy thing. So whenever someone comes over he hobbles on three legs (even though he can walk on it now) green leg out to the visitor so they make a big deal over him. We've taken to calling him Tripod!!

Oh, I know how smart this guy is!! We keep him on a tie out leash (because people are afraid of his size). It's 30 feet long & he knows it's limits. But he stays on it because we want him to, because he knows how to get off and can do so at any time. Our yard ends with a hill, if he streches the leash to the very end and lays on the hill he uses gravity to actually pull his collar off his neck. When he does do this, we just find the leash with an empty collar. ROFL! Usually he does this for attention (or for a car ride) because we know exactly where he goes and pick him up with the car.
