My wife's birthday is coming up, and I have a recent photo of the kids which would be nice to enlarge and frame. I'd love to hear your thoughts...
What do you think of the editing? The lighting was a little boring in the original, so I spent a bit of time dodging the rocks.
I spot edited a tag off the inside of my son's hat. I couldn't see anything else that needed spot fixing, so let me know if you see something.
Saturation too much/too little? I've bumped the background saturation, but kept it limited on the kids to keep the skin tones.
I'd also like to hear thoughts on the crop. Is it balanced? Too wide? It is quite a wide crop, with just a bit removed from the left side of the original. The kids are fairly small in the online version, but as I'm going to enlarge it, I'm thinking I can get away with that. I really wanted to keep the nice surrounds, so didn't want to crop it too much. Interestingly, the final crop I chose is perfectly centred on my son's open mouth! :)
This picture is taken between wave sets, so you don't see it in this picture, but there were 6-8 foot wave faces breaking about 10 metres offshore. :) Don't worry, we were all totally safe where we were, but I was a bit dubious about the surfers catching the waves for a few metres, and then bailing out before hitting the rocks. They weren't even wearing helmets!
Anyway, I gotta turn in for the night, but I'll check in tomorrow to see your comments.

Great job, David - your kids are little cuties for sure! I'm sure your wife would love to see this framed. The emotion in the shot is clear, and the edits you did look great. :)

she will love it.
not that it really matters but the sky is a little distracting from the kids, did you think of a bigger crop?
your colours are fine i just thought i would mix it up a bit. :)

I really like the colors and feel of yours but I like nick's crop better. Fun shot. She will love it. |

Thanks for the comments. Yes, the crop is tricky. I really liked the angled rock on the left, for it's strong composition, but maybe I'm trying to put too much into the image, so maybe should just cut it. As for the sky, yep, it's pretty terrible. Maybe the tighter crop is the best way to get rid of this, and it will certainly focus on the kids better. I will try it in colour to see if I can live with the loss of scenery. :) |

I don't think you have to crop it, the background is interesting- just a bit too interesting- I do like Nick's version! :0)
The color is competing with your kids. Maybe lowering the blue saturation will help bring the focus back on them without getting rid of the beautiful landscape? Good Luck, it's an awesome shot & your kids look like they're having a ball! Your wife will treasure it
