I was off at the beach last week. These are the last two days before we left - August 9th and 10th. I'll get to the beach photos later today - I hope.

Day 49 - The Tecate Vendor
Took a train ride into Tecate Mexico yesterday and what a wake-up call that was. It was only 114 degrees (farenheit), so I don't think I will complain about my 90 degree weather today.
The haves and the have nots is really evident down there, and there seems to be a lot more have not families. They seem content in their simple abodes and surroundings, but it was tough to see that lifestyle.
The other thing that really stood out is the environment and surroundings are treated quite a bit differently than on the other side of the border...it is amazing what a bit of trash can do to hurt a communities appearance. I expected a whole different city. |

Day 50
Thanks everyone -- great fun, and I feel more connected to the site. I've got some catching up to do (I rather overlooked the people who weren't storing their photos on DPC). Looking forward to October.

For some reason, I did not take any pictures on Friday. I think I was tired or something. :/ So, I am using one from Thursday for #48. :0

The Raccoon
As I get out of the car to open the gate down the driveway I noticed this Raccoon beginning to climb the tree in the front yard just feet away from where I am standing. I must have scared him as I pulled in. My first thought was is this guy rabid. But the only sign of unsteadiness was when he almost lost his grip climbing the tree. Other than that he was very calm and deliberate. He stopped about 10 or 12 feet up the tree and watched me like a hawk. Whichever way I walked he kept his eyes on me. I garbed the camera out of the back of the car. As it was dusk I used the flash to get a bit of fill light and then used curves to lighten the image even more. He might have stayed still in one spot if I grabbed the tripod from the trunk of the car, but I was not going to take the chance and miss the picture.
This was a good way to finish up the 50 Days Project.
I've also uploaded the image to my portfolio

I had tentatively signed onto the 30 Days in B/W starting in October. Could I mesh the two? I really enjoyed this "in the life", even if I did have lame-o shots in the middle of the week. Sometimes, my life is a bit lame... but maybe I could try to spiff it up a bit by doing them in b/w? Let me know, I'd dump the other if need be. (maybe, but pretty sure this would be the case!) |
