Dunno about where you live but my money says that the bugs here won't come out... even with their parkas on, and if by miracle they do, my bet is on the skeeters.

*sigh* still in the 40's here. no pretty bugs out, yet. |

I don't have experience, but doesn't that lead to a large black area around the edges? |
One could always mount a 50mm lens reversed in front of an ordinary telephoto lens for quite a bit of magnification. The long focal length will, effectively, see through the middle of the 50mm and leave no shading. DOF gets somewhat tricky, to say the least.

That's what I did with the Sony W5. When I hold the 50mm in front of my 18-70mm you get a lot of shading. |

'cos as a home school family we get to grips with insects on a regular basis
An insect:
- has SIX legs
- its body is divided into 3 parts: head, thorax, abdomen
Good luck everyone. |
Okay is there anything that we might call an insect and it does not match that description 100%. If so id like an example and what is it calssified as. |

Ok...it's snowing here! There is no way I'm going to be able to come up with a bug unless I go over the local pet shot a buy a feeder bug.

The last time I photographed a bug, I spent two hours chasing a hopper around with a rubber ducky. My family was beside themselves...
I'm frightened what they will think this time around?!! YIKES! |

I spent this morning doing what I often do, hunting bugs in the garden with my makeshift macro. Everyone here know I'm crazy. |

Spiders and scorpions are Arachnids
Centepedes are classified as Chilopoda
Millepeds are Diplopoda
I'm sure that doesn't help much.
If you're really interested this site might help:
What's that bug?

Lucky for me- I live in NYC and have more roaches then I know what to do with...
Somehow I doubt a roach will do well with the voters...

Don't count them short, most of the big ugly bugs in the movies are Madagascar roaches

Only that fairly rare hand-rolled variety "Cubanis Backpocketus" :-) ....believe they feed on glow worms. |

The only insects I will be able to photograph would be at the butterfly exhibit at the zoo. I'm tempted but I am not even sure if they've even put them out yet. I'd hate to pay to get in to find out that my primary reason for going wasn't even there.
Not to mention my fiancee would kill me if I went to shoot butterflies instead of doing the stuff I need to get done (i.e. dumb taxes)
