I never joke about food. Anything else is fair game except game which is food and therefore not joked about:-) |

I'm in, if you'll have me! This is GTG #5 and the 5th one I've wanted to attend. I'm coming home from Sweden on April 19 and will be in Washington, Oregon, and California until August 21 - yay! The only dates I have planned so far are in April, so this fits perfectly. I'm so excited about getting back to the States.
Is it okay if I join in? Please? Any of you can pm me for the contact info I'll have when I'm there. Whoooohooo!! |

The first part of June is the Portland Rose Festival... the first weekend is the Starlight Parade, Tall Ships and a bunch of other things. The second weekend (9th/10th) is the Grand Foral Parage, Dragon Boat races and a bunch of other stuff.
Those of us that live around Portland know what it's like during those times along the river and downtown. Those that would be coming in to town, you can expect it to be hectic, crowded and busy. And I suspect a lot of people will be going to the outlying attractions while they are in the area or just to get away from the crowds of Portland.
I usually shoot the Dragon Boat races... lots of color and excitment.
Here is a link to the June Calendar:

I generally avoid Rose Festival like the plague. Can't stand that many people. |

Yeah, tons of people...I do like to shoot candids and portraits though. =) Sooo I'd be up for something like that if anyone else was...
If not, I'd gladly settle for waterfalls, too. =)

Please count me in. I'm up for any waterfalls or Rose Festival... whatever. Who's the lead for this GTG? |

Has anything been firmed up here? I could really use a when right now as I'm starting to plan weekends in May. I'm more of a waterfall guy than a Rose Parade guy -- but I think I could be up for either.
If we don't get things firmed up here pretty soon, I'm going to plan something myself (and you're all invited!)

For those that like balloons, Walla Walla is having their balloon festival May 11,12,13. It's the first one of several here in the Northwest and is usually pretty good with lots of balloons. The Balloons over Bend in centeral Oregon is another great one. Lots of balloons and plenty of space. The one at Tigard is so-so. Great balloons but so crowded with all the balloons in the small space that it's hard to get good pictures.
For waterfalls, Silverfalls just East of Salem are pretty good with one trail (about 5 miles long) that takes you past 10 waterfalls. Or you can drive to the South end and take pictures of the falls there and then drive around to the North end and take pictures of the falls there. Got to watch out for those rampaging Chipmunks though. They think they own the trails and park area. :D

Cristin, we all know that you're much cooler than I am. In fact, with you around I know we'll never have to worry about global warming.
Nope, you're the fearless and way cool leader this time.

Deer Island is on the Columbia River, somewhere between Portland and Astoria. It's a major vacation destination. Millions of visitors come here every year from all over the world. Most of them simply come to bask in my coolness, but some have a deep desire to learn The Way of the Camera. They follow me everywhere I go and imitate my every move. It's really cute, but can be quite annoying at times.
Seriously, go west on highway 30 from Portland about 45-50 miles and you will drive right through Deer Island. Don't blink or you'll miss it. The town consists of one gas station/store called "Deer Island Store". Go two miles past the store and look up in the hills and you will see our house. I'll be the one sitting at the computer eating ice cream.
