Brian

What time are you going to Oneonta? Are you willing to meet others there as well?

Hey Brian, I'll do Oneonta with you if you give me a piggyback ride. :D

I'm hoping to arrive at Oneonta Gorge about 7:30 or 8:00am. I'll be hiking up into the gorge as far as I can without stripping down.

I'd be happy to meet up with anyone that would like to. (Mick -- sorry, Jeeps is the only one that gets a piggy-back ride).

I'm assuming you've been there...that's not a very long hike.

If you go too far you have to take your clothes off? Traveling light makes sense, but isn't that taking things a bit too far? :D

What's he got that I don't? Except maybe a flea collar. I've had all my shots. I can also catch a frisbee with my hands. Can he do that?

Seriously, I'm looking forward to seeing you guys again. I want to sell you on... uh.. tell you about the coz dive trip that I'm planning for next year.

Hey I didn't get a chance to call and reserve Benson today but I'll do it on Tuesday.

So it's Oneonta for those who'd like to join ourwebstop at about 7:30 on June 2nd then everyone meet at Benson park at about 1000 and we'll head up the scenic highway to the falls. It hasn't been decided which falls but we can do that at Benson so that those who want to hike up one of them can join up and do that then those who can't or don't want to hike can join up and go from there. I've invited Ursula to crash at my place either Friday night and/or Saturday night if she makes it (she's still tentative). But, if anyone has a real guest room instead of a couch or airbed then I'm sure she'd appreciate it.

I'd offer our guest room, but my wife made me stop inviting strange women to spend the night. ;)

Okay the reservation has been made for the group shelter at Benson State Park. There is a family size BBQ as well as many other amenities.

I have paid the $41.00 reservation and use fees and will NOT be collecting from you guys for it. Consider it my gift. BUT... there is a $3.00 fee for each vehicle which I didn't pay so if you plan to carpool (with gas prices these days its a good idea anyway) then you can share the burden.

We have the shelter from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. I know food was mentioned earlier in the thread so maybe we could plan a BBQ for around dinner time? I don't know how long everyone plans on hanging around but, it would be nice to have everyone gather at the end of all the little jaunts and hikes just to make sure we all got out safely. Besides then we have some time to just chat and get to know eachother - oh and share some our shots and talk about photography of course...lol

If we want to do the BBQ dinner idea then lets coordinate here as to who's bringing what so we don't end up with 20 bags of chips and nothing to put on the grill. I'll bring plasticware, plates, napkins and cups.

Oh Sherry can be pretty critical so I make my own decisions anyway. Hey if you can't make it to the GTG on the 2nd then we should definately get together some other time.

... and yes, it is a small world!!

My room mate called me from work today and asked me if I knew who ace flyman was on "my" photography website and I said yes then I heard him talking to her right there. He works in the same office that she does. Who knew....

I got the receipt/confirmation from Oregon parks and recreation for Benson and they included an ad for a photo contest for their calendar. I'll bring it with me. You may want to look through some of your old shots and see if there's anything you've already got that you could submit. The cover of the calendar will be the winner and each of the months will have an entry selected as well. Wouldn't it be awesome if most of their calendar came from DPCers?

Hey Ursula he said you're strange...

Whaaaat?!?!?!

I'm very likely coming with my daughter, funnylooks. Not 100% sure yet, but pretty sure. We should be coming to the park on June 1 in the evening, and camp overnight, and go from there.

This is just June 2, right?

Please, don't take it personally. I think all women are a bit strange. Not bad strange, just... strange. :D

Yes it is June 2 but, I don't think you can camp overnight at Benson. You can contact them at (503)695-2261. Or to make reservations to camp at another park the number to call is (503)731-3411.

Directions to Benson for those who don't know....
"Benson State Recreation ARea is located at exit 30 on I-84 east, 30 miles east of Portland." Quoted from the information sent to me.

Also for the photo contest I mentioned earlier, you can find out more at www.oregonstateparks.org/goclick

I'd like to volunteer to bring some food or drink items, but I don't know what we need. Is anyone keeping a list of who’s bringing what?

05/20/2007 06:34:21 PM · #147
OK, my daughter and I are coming (unless my car breaks down, or the dog eats my camera).

There's camping at Ainsworth State Park, which seems to be quite close. That's where we're planning to camp (Mariana and I).

As for food, whats needed? Whatever I can bring, won't be freshly made, as I'll be on the road a few days before getting there.

Where is Oneonta in relation to all of this?

Here is a link to a map that shows the stretch between The Dalles and Troutdale with the Scenic Highway and the falls.

Columbia River Gorge Scenic Highway

I'll keep a list but the only thing so far is what I'm bringing and its not food. I'll be bringing plates bowls, cups, napkins and plasticware. Just let me know what you want to bring and I'll keep track.

We need..
meat (hamburger, hot dogs, chicken, steak, whatever you want to put on the grill)
bread (buns if burgers or dogs)
some sort of salad (green, potato, macaroni, whatever)
chips/dip
something to drink
Charcoal

and of course this is all completely suggestions. WHATEVER you want to bring will probably be fine. I just want to keep track so that we don't end up with everyone bringing the hot dog buns and no one brings the hot dogs to go on 'em. Know what I mean vern?
