Sigh. I pride myself on finding a nugget of usefulness in every comment, regardless of how tactless or seemingly mean-spirited.
But sheesh, two comments on my cell phone entry are pushing the limit.
One guy said "nice photo" and then proceeded to warn me that cell phones will kill me.
The other basically said that I should look up his comments on 20 similar subjects.
Both commenters are brand new to DPC. I'm wondering if the first guy joined just to post warnings and if the second guy thinks we have any clue what others are going to shoot in advance.

This is why I try to, instead of trying to find some usefulness, try to find at least some evidence of them trying to be helpful, because that can definitely be different. |

I complain a lot so I wanted to share some good news!!!!!
I just processed a picture by idreamoftryptamines and did a writeup for the DPC Mentorship - Post Processing II thread. I changed
into
It kind of made me step back and look at how far I have come since joining DPC. YAY!
p.s. thank you all for being here :-)

Wow, Kelly! That's really amazing! Very nice work, and a great job in explaining how you did what you did. Very much in the spirit of DPC, too. Thanks!! |

I'm back.
My flash (Nikon SB400) did NOT want to fire for me at all today. I *hope* I can salvage a few of the 150 pictures for my client. I am so disappointed. I put new batteries in it last night.
Nothing like looking completely useless on your first shoot *sigh* This is NOT getting me any referrals I'm sure.

Sorry to hear about the equipment problems - hate when that happens! I don't even have a flash so I can't offer any advice, either. I'm sure you'll find some pictures that will work, though, and Team Suckers are here to help if you need it with post processing. (We can always call in the Bear, too - he'll be willing to lend a hand with advice and tricks, I'm quite sure.) |

Oh, and despite my initial lack of interest, I'm in Spinning, Pop Culture, and submitted the Free Study today, too. It's amazing what one can do with a shoehorn.... :-) |

If you shot a disco ball, you could submit three shots from the same series to all of them. :P
Kelly, that's a terrific edit! Seeing that kind of stuff makes me look at what I think are wasted shots in a whole new light.

I suffered flash not flashing problems, but that was the batteries. I replaced them with rechargeables - I think it's a generally good idea to have heaps of rechargeables around. (Even better idea to charge them all up and have some sort of system involved, but that might be over-doing it). If it's anything like gambling, then not winning the first race gives a healthy perspective.
I'm in spinning and pop so far. Some fairly dreadful pictures, but I wanted to do them, so . . .
My magnificent run of 3 or 4 pictures over 5 is ending abruptly with a portrait at 4.0xx. The fives were interesting though - as though I, too, might actually have learned something.
Good edit, Kelly, but especially good explanation. You're a communicator. |

Hey, did you shoot in RAW?
Two things.....if you did, you may be able to jack the exposure enough to compensate.
Seconed, and most important.......be straight up and honest.
I believe that you said that this was a gratis assignment......tell them your equipment malfunction was unfortunate, and that you'd like to redo the shoot.
There will always be a time when circumstances beyond your control can trash a job......don't worry about it.
If you operate on a satisfaction guarantee basis, you may have to do a reshoot someday anyway, and if that is your intent, you can juat say that this would be the normal procedure if the client wasn't satisfied.
Hang in there, it seems like a lot of us here are related as it turns out........by blood to a guy named Murphy.

After a hardy laugh, I'm ignoring a comment I got on Light: "Um... No". Probably fulfilling the request for comments on ratings below 4. |

Hey skewsme, I decided to take your advice. I won't say which advice it was or which challenge I'm using it in but thanks. I think it came out cool but that's usually a bad omen if I like it. |

Yippee! My color portrait shot climbed all day today and picked up a second fave. Looks like I have a new 4th best score. The subject is someone I very much look forward to seeing on my profile. :)

I know I'd have scored better with a shot of my ever so photogenic and effervescent daughter, but I just loved this little fellow.
Catherine, it's a little tribute to your propensity for wildlife....I though the fact that he was standing in snow was kinda cool, too, pun intended!
And thanks to Leah for her "11th Hour", literally, comment and ridiculously high vote!
Methinks the Edit time-clock is off a tad!!!!

Hey, so I did! And on a portrait, no less. :) I'm just thrilled I get to look at Amelia on my top scores line!
For everyone who lacks a real studio, check out mine and take heart. *chuckle*
