I just finished voting.
I saw some very good entries, I will probably go back and bump a few after more consideration.
I saw several that were simply out of focus. Those scored lower. I also saw several that were most likely "normal" shots with the blur filter added in post processing. In many of these the softness had no context or significance with the subject matter, IMO. The softness did not add to the image. These scored low as well.
When I say low, I mean 4-5. I didn't score any image lower than 4.
The ones that were more shallow DOF than soft focus faired a little better.
Some really good images though.

Also, I've made the promise to myself that I will comment and vote on 100% of these ones, as I'm not in it. I refuse to vote in the open challenge that I'm in from now on, just cuz my scores tick me off so badly.
