I reckon that people have made two mistakes here...they either entered shots with out of focus bg's which Zi don't believe was the intention of the challenge, or they took shots and gave them a soft diffuse glow, which is ok, but the softness doesn't suit the subject matter...I mean, some were actions shots...isn't soft focus for when you want something to be warm and cuddly and serene and gentle?

Use this technique in an effective way to convey a message to your viewer.... I may be way off base here but, I do not think the majority of the shots made any point or message at all :(

I knew it... if I had entered this shot in any other challenge I'd have 10 comments telling me that my focus is too soft. This one... 1 comment asking where the soft focus is. LOL.

Well my scores are turned off, my shot is better then where its scoring and the one comment is asking if my subject, a male, is wearing some sort of makeup? I'm going off to do more productive things.

I think what you and hotpasta said are dead on the mark. Mostly it's blurred images, or those that aren't suited for soft focus. That's why I entered "rope" and it's not doing well either. ;~( BUT there are a handful that really shine and I hope they do well. They deserve it. |
