Hey mH, there's going to be pastries. Are you sure you can't make it? :)
I hope you find a ride!

The third DPChallenge Oregon Get Together (OGTG3) was held Saturday, May 13, 2006 at Short Sands Beach. Located a few miles south of Cannon Beach in beautiful crescent-shaped Smuggler’s Cove, Short Sands Beach, part of Oswald West State Park, is a very popular beach for surfers, kayakers, hikers, and (of course) a few intrepid photographers. If you're looking for the ultimate in natural beauty, look no further than Short Sands Beach. Every possible shade of verdant green can be found somewhere within - complimented by the deep, rich red browns of trees, wooden bridges and rich soil. The mountains and cliffs surrounding the secluded cove are very colorful and dotted with several small waterfalls that tumble down the rocky cliffs and splash into the waves crashing on the rocky shoreline.
The weather for the GTG was wonderful. It was a beautiful sunny day with just a few wisps of fluffy white cloud in the distance. The tide at sunrise was extremely low and gave photographers plenty of room and opportunities to capture the scenery and the people.
The Cline family (Eric, Cristin, Sara, and Rianna) arrived early and hoped others would too. They arrived with a variety of cameras and excitement.
Charles Islander (cislander) added his humor and easygoing personality to the mix as well as pastries, which everyone enjoyed.
Brian McLaughlin (ourwebstop), his girlfriend Linda, and GPS (Jeeps) the dog arrived in their vegetable oil burning car, which everyone wanted to know about and he was more than happy to talk about. A lucky few were even able to see the modifications under the hood.
Joe Garry (ace flyman) came even though he couldn’t stay very long and brought the biggest donuts anybody had ever seen.
Thomas (Zoomdak) arrived with his dad David (charliebaker) who could only stay long enough to meet and say hello to everyone.
Mick (micknewton), who provided the comic relief by throwing himself head first into the gravel (he swears that someone, probably Cristin or Rianna, pushed him from behind), was there with his wife Becky (buckwheat) and both had new equipment to try out.
As usual, everyone had a great time at the GTG, and I have no doubt that somebody in this group of talented individuals even managed to get a few great photos. Maybe, if we’re lucky, some of them will post a few of their prize captures here for us all to enjoy.
Here's a group photo taken by the very talented micknewton. Unfortunately, the photo was taken after some of the people were forced to leave early for various reasons. Missing are Chuck (cislander) and Joe (ace flyman).
Okay guys, post 'em if ya got 'em. :)

Nice. I'm jealous, but I did make the right decision. I'll keep trying until I actually get to one of these. |

Okay, I'll go first. Here's one that I like. This was taken from near the waterline, looking back towards the day-use picnic area.

Okay, guys. I need help.
(yeah, yeah, yall knew that already...)
So in ALL of my pix from yesterday, I've got this freaky weird curved lighter-bit going thru the shot. Check it out:
Does anyone know what caused this? Should I send my shtupid camera in to Canon and have them look at it?
This happened with every lens I had on, too, so it wasn't just a lens thing...

Just an eyeball in a fungus clump that looks a little weird.
It was great meeting all of you. Looking forward to the next GTG

I don't think so...I've looked at it, and it seems to be clean enough...

It's not Mick. It's looking at the new camera of yours. Explains the white drool. |

We really enjoyed seeing everyone at Short Sands. Here are some photos I managed to stumble home with.

There are more on my website at //brian.ourwebstop.com/newpictures -- open the newpictures folder and then look in the OGTG3 folder.
Mick, thanks for rallying the group! And thanks to those that came and made it a fun day. I'm looking forward to doing it again.
Brian

Great shots Brian! I definately need to get in better shape if I'm going to try following you around. I'm still hurting all over from the little bit of hiking I did with you, Linda, and Thomas. Although, I probably wouldn't hurt so much if Cristin hadn't tripped me and made fall. ;)

Nice! I left a critique on your photo.
BTW, I think I have a photo of you taking this photo. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Hey, didn't anyone else take any pics?
Oh well, here's a couple more for your ignoring pleasure...
This is a B&W version of 'Textured Sands'. The 12.8MP image is awesome! I can count the pine needles on the trees! The 5D rocks!
This shot is from the same location as my 'Cape Falcon' image. Man, I love the megapixels!

Here are a couple more shots from the GTG.
This one was taken from Falcon Cape looking across Smugglers Cove.
And these ferns really caught my attention. I tried a variety of shots to try and capture it -- I guess this is about the best of the lot.

Ya know, that thing on your photos looks a bit like that fungus with an eyeball that Chuck found. Does the camera ever move by itself?

Becky was shooting photos of Rianna, so I poached a shot while she wasn't looking.

One of the shots from our hike...
I wanted to frame this shot with tree branches like Brian did with his, but sometimes you just can't see the forrest for the trees. :) When I took this shot, Zoomdak and I were trying to share a small brush-covered ledge on a steep slope. It was hard to stand up, let alone move around to get a decent view.
I will be going back to shoot this location again. Hopefully it will be sometime soon. Maybe I can do it better next time.
