I'm in, I'm in, I'm in!!

My dad is graduating on the 19th, but the monday before (the 15th) he has no class, so we could probably make it on the 13th.

W00T!!!!

Can't wait to see everyone again. :)

And I've gotta ask, too--what is happening with food? should my dad and I bring anything?

kk, sounds rad so far, people. looking forward to it!!

Hey Cristin, that's great! I was hoping that you guys could make it. Nevertheless, aren't you forgetting something? Who's going to carry all of our camera gear and other junk down to the beach? Who's going to pose for us when we need a pretty girl in the shot? More importantly, who's going to perform all of these little chores for the price of a small bag of peanuts? Hmmm? Please, don't tell me that Ronce went on strike, or (heaven forbid) learned how grossly under-paid she is.

Well folks, the GTG is scheduled for one short week from today. That means you only have a few days left to decide what you're bringing for me us to eat.

In situations like this one, I usually prefer the wholesome goodness of a well barbequed cheeseburger, with mustard, mayonnaise, lettuce, pickles, and onion on a sesame seed bun.

I think we have some mustard around here somewhere, so I guess I can bring that part. Who's bringing all the other stuff... and the BBQ?

Actually, I think they have a few built-in BBQ grills at Short Sands Beach. If they do, then all we'll need is some charcoal and a means to light it. Becky and I are planning to stop by there tomorrow to check the place out. I'll try to verify the existance of built-in BBQ grills while we're there.

Does anybody want to volunteer to bring anything for the group to eat or drink? If you do, then please post it here or PM me with the info. I'll keep a list of who's bringing what and let you know if we̢۪re going to be short of anything important.

C'mon people, I need some feedback!

ahahaha, you just made Rianna's day, Mick!

Her head is swelling up as we speak. :)

But yes, she should be there, unless my daddy-o and I decide to come on the motorcycle, in which case...I'll have to carry my own tripod. :)

But I do have a serious question, what time are people really going to show up? If you'll be there at sunrise, my dad and I can get there that early, but if no one's going to be there, we'll wait until a leetle bit later hour. :)

And if you're a REALLY good boy this year, I may bring apple crisp for us you to eat. :) I'll talk to my parents about what else we can bring, as I'm sure we've got something around here we could scrounge up for yall. :)

Still hoping to make it, but I may arrive Friday at sunset to shoot and then camp overnight, shoot at dawn, and clear out by 9:00 or 10:00 to be back with family. We camped this week and are doing it again next week so they didn't feel up to coming along.

Anybody thinking of being there Friday night?

A quarter just doesn't go as far as it use to..lol....I'll bring desert of some kind. Going to try to get the old RV out of storage. Where should we meet just before sunrise?

edit; doc where you camping at? thinking if I can get my rv ready I might come up Friday, haven't seen the thing for couple of years

Hey, that would mean that I'd have to carry my own gear! Please stop, you're making me queasy.

Well, for some silly reason the sun has been rising earlier and earlier lately, so I doubt that we'll get there before sunrise. Besides, this is the west coast and we'll have the coast range between the sunrise and us. Still, the morning light should be better than afternoon light, so we'll try to get there as early as possible.

With any luck, we'll have a beautiful sunset to photograph. You folks might want to plan on staying late enough for that.

Hey, I'm always a good boy! Okay, maybe not always, but all evidence to the contrary was destroyed long ago. :)

I will be in Oregon but unable to make the GTG on Saturday. The family is so rigid when it comes to things like showing up for your son's wedding. These people need to get their priorities in order, don't you think?

Because I was going to be on the beach I checked tides. There is a low minus tide at Seaside at 8:37AM on the 13th so is a great day to be there early. That is about the lowest of the month.

Welp, my dad works till 10pm Friday night, so we won't be able to make it up that night, but we'll try for earrrrrrllllyyyy Saturday morning. Sounds good.

And yeah, I'll echo Joe's question. Meeting place?

I may see if Rianna will loan me her forehead, and I'll just...tattoo DPC on it...or something, then yall who haven't met us yet will know who we are. :)

Yeah, kids these days! When I was a kid we worked all day, uphill both ways, for two seashells and a dried up Oreo cookie.

Anyway, Becky and I will try to get there as early as possible, which translates to 'whenever I drag myself out of bed and get down there.' I'll try to get there before sunrise, or not too long after. :)

It's not that big of a place, so we shouldn't have any problems finding each other. Just park in the big parking lot on the highway, then follow the trail 1/4 mile down to the beach. When you get there, yell as loud as you can, "YOHOOO! I'M HERE! WHERE ARE YOU?" You'll soon know where everyone is by triangulating on the sound of laughter. :)

A 1/4 mile down....the beach. The last time we just walked down a 1/4 mile, I about died getting back up.....lol.......see ya guys there..

Hmmmm... We could tattoo a picture of a large ship sailing across her forehead. Then, we pose her on the beach with the horizon line on her head matched up with the real one. It'll look like the ship is sailing through her head. Would that make an awesome photo?

Try to talk her into it, okay? Bribe her with candy, or maybe something sparkly.

Mmkay, I have (obviously) never been there, and had no clue what size of a place we were dealing with here. :) Sounds good.
My dad says we'll think about what we can bring as far as food goes, so I'll letcha know as soon as he's made some sort of decision...

Teehee...or maybe...a quarter?

Yup, and then I think we've got a ribbon winner right there, Mick! You're brilliant.

Okay folks, Becky and I just got back from checking out Short Sands Beach, and everything looks okay. Well, everything except the weather. It was sprinkling off and on all day.

My nephew, whom I haven't seen in 25 years, came up from California with his wife and baby, so we met them for lunch at Cannon Beach. Afterwards, we all stopped by Ecola Park (drove right past Zoomdak's house) and took a few photos. Then, we drove down to Short Sands and took a few more photos.

A while ago, some huge trees fell on the wooden bridge that crosses the stream near the beach and destroyed it. However, now there's a brand new bridge. They also repaired the gravel trail so it's an easy stroll down to the beach.

They do have a few built-in BBQ grills.
They do have restrooms.
They do have picnic tables.
They do have campsites. (we didn't check to see if any were available)

Anyway, we should be good to go.

I'm really beat, but I'll try to post some pics of the place later.

This shot was taken from the Short Sands Beach trailhead, which is located underneath the highway bridge on US-101, near the large parking area. The foot bridge in the photo is located on the east (upstream) side of the highway.

The trail down to the beach is well maintained. It's a short, but very nice, 1/4 mile hike down to the beach. This is a shot of Becky walking up the trail towards the parking area.

When you're walking down the trail towards the beach, take the right fork to get to the beach and picnic areas. Take the left fork to go to the campgrounds.

Hopefully, we will have better weather for the GTG. Cross your fingers!

Looks like a great place, Mick!

So my dad and I can bring chips and pop and hamburger buns, does that sound good? If anyone's got any specific flavour requests, now's the time to get those in, folks. :)

I have one bag of 1/4 lb. hamburger patties (I think there are 10 or 12 patties in there). I'd gladly trade some for ketchup, mustard, and a bun! I'll bring a bag of briquettes too.

We're to arrive Friday afternoon, hike up Neakahnie, then stay over near Rockaway. I think I'm going to try to make sunrise at the Cape Meares lighthouse in Tillamook. If that goes well, we should make it to Short Sands around 10:00 or so -- definitely in time for lunch! And I definitely want to be there for the sunset.

I'm sure that Jeeps (the dog) will appreciate this GTG more than the last one!

See you.

Brian

I'm heading up to Oregon from Phoenix this afternoon and will be there for 1 week. Originally I'd planned to drive but the convenience and economics of flying made a last minute change the logical choice.

Won't make the GTG, but will be thinking about you. I've got MickNewton's number and will be calling when I get up there.

Hey Brian, it looks like you might get a little wet on Friday. Better bring your shower cap. :)

Saturday's weather is going to be beautiful. I guarantee it. If the weather is not 100% beautiful, then I will personally refund 100% of your OGTG3 entry fee.
