When I retire I will grow the Grizzly Adams beard.
Until then, yeah I shave every day.

Why do you have to have to have an office job to have good hygiene?

I don't have an office job, and I shave every day.

I was soooooooo pissed! I didn't have to shave 'til I was 23, now I have to shave at least every other day to not look scruffy, every day to look nice.

I *HATE* mustaches & beards!

Itchy & messy....

Every DAY? I shave every two hours, unless I want to look like a gorilla. Heck, this is me 6 hours after shaving :S

That is why I shave continuously. The minute I am done with the right side, I start again on the left and work my way over the right. Have to look professional for work. Mornings when I first wake up are tough -- then the machete comes out.

I'm blessed, I only have to shave every 3-4 days. My facial hair is so sparse.

Not shaving is NOT bad hygiene. sheesh!

Is having long hair bad hygiene too? How about a beard, is that dirty?

I HAVE to shave everyday...military (I do skip the weekends). While I could have a mustache I don't know if I want to go that route until I retire...in 6 months YIPPPPEEEE...sorry I digress.

I think when I do retire I will maybe go with a bit of a beard but can't stand having my neck unshaven (of course I also hate shaving my neck too...wish I could get it lasered off) ultimately it comes down to what the wife is gonna like and how much grey is in it lol. Too much grey and I will probably wait until I find my new job (don't wanna risk them thinking "he's OLD, we don't want him").

I have always shaved, because I look scruffy after 1 day of not shaving. If I let it grow it might be ok, but there is a middle ground time where it looks awful.

I read in Men's Health that shaving everyday removes dead skin off your face and keeps you wrinkle free. So if the ladies would just shave everyday they would not have wrinkles.

I'm lucky if I remember to brush my hair let alone shave.

I shave 2-3 times a week or sometimes I will go a couple of weeks without providing I have no meetings with clients, OR no request from the wife to get rid of the pricklies. Anything over 2.5 - 3 weeks it starts to bug me and I shave for the comfort factor.

It's been a while since I posted, but I was wondering about this. I usually shave Mondays and then get lazy for the rest of the week....sometimes shaving again on Thursdays.

I have a semi-trimmed full beard so I am referring to shaving the neck area and upper cheeks only.

I work as a Category Manager and have frequent meetings with vendors, other departments, etc. I have a tattoo on my arm that is visible when I wear golf shirts (yuck, tucking in my shirt sucks) so my appearance isn't prim and proper to begin with. My hair is a tiny bit shaggy, but not too bad.

I have been wondering recently whether people at work think I'm a bit sloppy because of my shaving habits as my "5 o'clock shadow" is usually a "fuzzy 3 day shadow" by mid-week.

Thank you in advance for your opinions and recommendations.

I shave Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday unless special occasions require otherwise.

This thread makes me feel older than dirt.

When I started working in an office back in 1974 ... business attire included a suit, a white shirt, a dark tie, highly polished shoes, a hat, and an umbrella. Not shaving was NOT an option. I once had a co-worker sent home because he wore a three piece suit (pants, vest, jacket) where the vest didn't match the pants and jacket. I once participated in a rating and ranking session for our employees where one of the partners said of a junior employee, "You're supposed to have shined shoes and dull slacks, and he's got it backwards." We fired him.

Well, I'm sure you're getting the idea.

I've worn a suit once since I retired more than 4 years ago ... to my son's wedding ... and the attire in the venture capital community where I now work part time is much more "casual." And although jeans and a sweater are fine and I wear a beard now, I could not show up at any business function without shaving. I am a prisoner of my working history.

Still, I believe impressions count, and my advice would be to dress and groom to be among the top 25% of your peers. In these days where you could get fired for burping, there's no sense in looking less than professional for the role you have ... whatever standard of professionalism applies in your case.

Interestingly, I've had almost the opposite experience ... when I started working in the health field in 1974 at the Berkeley Community Health Project, I already hadn't shaved in nearly three years, at Spring Break when I was a freshman in college, and working attire usually included jeans, T-shirts, and sandals ... I now work for a drug treatment program and also for a commercial printer, and not much has changed ... :-)

Once every two weeks, not that it makes any difference....

I'm one of the managers at a 9 hole golf course. I only use a trimmer, and not everyday. Right now I have a beard going on and my wife loves it. My hair is past my shoulders too. Sometimes I keep it in a ponytail and sometimes not. As long as I do my job and keep everything neat and clean my boss is ok with it. BTW, I was in the US Army for 22 years and I guess it's my way of rebelling, lol. Oh, and the pic below is about a year old and my hair is longer now. And no, I'm not bald under the hat.

Yup - everyday when I use the machine but when I once in a blue moon use the razor blade (feels good, but looks too 'clean' for my liking); I can skip the next day.

I would like to let it grow during the hockey play-off's (at least until the Leafs are out of it), but I guess common sense prevails every year so I haven't actually done it yet :)

My boys saw ZZ Top on TV and told me that I should grow my beard out like that.

I don't really think so

Everyday for work and almost every weekend (sometimes I skip Saturday if I have a hangover).

Don't forget, you're not shaving for yourself but for the smoothness the Ladeez love.
