my most used chair (working at the desk, computer stuff...) it's really good for the back and you can always move alittle bit...try with this one if you don't want to have problems with your back in the future :)
I'm really interested in this chair. :-) Do you have the name of it, and where it's available?

Mine has several features for both keeping me awake and keeping me from leaving my desk, but sometimes my monitor flickers and my lights dim when I use the stay awake button...

That would be an exercise ball. Alot of medical supply stores carry them, as well as sports/fitness related businesses. Even some office furniture stores are beginning to carry them. They are very comfortable, excellent for posture health, and generally get some cool looks from anyone walking by your cube. |

Thanks everyone for your input (and Rikki for your kind offer!). I ended up ordering the "Highly Adjustable" model of the Aeron (Lumbar support), with the promotion for the free leather arm upgrade.
I saved about $150 by ordering a open box unit at LuxuryChair.com
I hope they don't turn out to be crooks :)

I lived in an aeron for about 5 years.
Was lucky enough to get a decent chair after that, that has a 'forward' tilt adjust, which is a big improvement for back support. Aeron have that 'futuristic' techie cachet that was really popular 5 years ago in the bubble, but you are paying a lot of money for looks over real ergonomic features. There are a lot of better options out there, that aren't quite so trendy.
If you want trendy, you could always get a Pininfarina Xten chair for $3,000 :)
FWIW, I have a Lifeform chair now and am happy with.

I got a little worried about the company not being an authorized dealer and called them with a possibility of cancelling my order. Then they started acting a bit like one of those NYC camera stores you read about on resellerratings.
The order hadn't shipped or billed to my card. But when I mentioned cancelling, they said there was a cancellation charge. Not true according to the website. Then they said the order might have shipped already. Took them 24 hours to figure out that the order didn't ship.
I told them if it shipped before I called them yesterday, I'd accept it, but not after. It took so long to get back to me, for them to figure out whether it had shipped, I feared they were quickly trying to ship me "something". Which worried me to no end. And thinking about the whole interaction, I really didn't want to order from them.
So since I hadn't seen any charges yet, I changed my credit card number, so they couldn't suddenly ship it and charge me.
But it was resolved when they finally called me back late today (after I called three times). Now it's cancelled.

Neil-
I currently use an X99 from Haworth. I have it both at work and at home. Both are mine eventhough work provides us with Aeron chairs. I prefer them more than the Aeron.
Let me find out what I can dig up from our reps ;) |

You can find these at any store that sells exercise equipment. They are called exercise balls or theraballs. They are often in the section where pilates and yoga stuff is sold as well. Highly recommed getting one not just to sit on but also to do a few exercises while you're waiting for something to download on
They are often used in gyms for core stability exercises. Doing a bench press type exercise on the ball not only exercises your arms, but your entire core section as well.
Plus they are comfortable to sit on while working at your computer. Just don't lean back on them!
Edit to add: They also make a great ottoman while sitting on a normal chair :)

Ok did some bit of research. List price of the x99 for a "fully loaded" version (leather, seat adjustments, lumbar, etc) is roughly $1900. I can get a good deal on it ;) |

I'm very fortunate to have a Mirra - //www.hermanmiller.com/CDA/SSA/Product/0,1592,a10-c440-p205,00.html that was kindly provided to me by my sister in law's boyfriend who conveniently works in office furniture installations.
The most comfortable chair I've ever used - my back is very grateful for it.

Thanks, Rikki, I watched the video on their site--it's very adjustable. But that's a big price to go with it. I was wincing at the Aeron price, which is why I tried this lower priced outlet.
Right now I am sitting on a $59 steno chair from Staples. No arms at all. That's perhaps why it's worked well for me for the past two years or so--because I often sit lotus style. But it's starting to hurt my butt!
I'll have to look around and try some chairs here at some higher end office stores. I've done that before at Staples, but it's so hard to see if you like a chair just sitting in it in a store. The Aeron chair was an easy pick mainly because it's so highly recommended by so many. And it's a lot harder when a chair cost as much as a nice L lens.
