A lot of big names dropped so far...and I agree with all of them. I would like to add my two cents' worth, though...I'd pick these folks, and I'll just let you look at their portfolios - you'll understand why when you see the emotion and beauty that I see when I look through their shots.

OK, theoretically speaking, I would most likely be starting a portrait business with the emphasis on children, not just children, but mostly children. My list I posted earlier is an all around type of list. This one is more centered around the types of folks that would greatly contribute to this type of business, also with being in jive with the type of childrens' photography I like.
Artyste
Grigrigirl
Sonifo
Roadrunner
jmoore
Calliopekel
Some others: Klifton, mandyturner, Beautyqn25, Laurielblack, parrothead and I'm sure I'm missing a few more. :-)

Hard to pull only 5. In no special order, these are my top 10 favorites:
Gibun - because he creates visuals that talk to other then my eyes alone.
Messerschmitt - because he keeps a different thinking, despite of everything.
Goodman - because of her excellent process and best portraits photography on this site.
Tristalisk - because he is able to create stock photography that is also an art.
Skiprow - because of his excellent technique and a surprising point of view.
RKT - because she can make art out of the most common things.
Scalvert - because he has the most creative ideas.
Azrifel - because his photography quiets my mind.
Joey Lawrence - because his photography troubles my mind.
Jutilda - becaue she lets everyone share her inspiration and spirit and wonderful ideas. |

Wow! I made someone's list! (Thanks Neufer!)
I thought about complaining about this type of thread, but now that I'm on someone's list....I think it's just a wonderful piece of communication. ;-) |

I'll have to go more than 5 too...
Librodo - For his portrait taking and ability to see light so well.
Riotspyne - Her versatility and talent
Brad P - For his ability to take nice pictures out of a car window at 60 mph
Roadrunner - Her use of natural light in portraits and her timing.
JPR - Could handle the B&W candid work
Xion - Can handle abstract color candids and supply us with good Irish beer.
Joey Lawrence - For his soft, supple skin and luscious lips
Grigrigirl - For her edgy, unique perspective and talent
Bear_Music - Can handle landscape work beautifully and also cook for us
Jbeguin - Can make any subject look good.
That leaves out a lot of great people, but it would be a pretty good group.

If I could choose 5 photographers from DPC..... I think I'd choose 5 images instead. Sorry, I'm just not into the sycophant suck-up thing.

I'm glad someone said it.

How does pointing out good work make all of us "sycophant suck-up(s)?"

Using the word sycophant would imply we have something to gain from "sucking up" to these people. Honestly I don't think there is anything at all in this world that Brad P or anyone on that list could do for me, so what are you talking about? Sucking up to them how? For what?
Go have a beer and relax.

ughhhhhh... whatever. Why do fun, supportive things always have to go sour? If you don't like so-called "suck-up" threads, and I think you could tell by the title what was going to be showcased here, then don't look at them and nobody's inconvenienced and everyone can continue to play nice. Geesh.....

It doesn't if you are pointing out a good work. But the person who started this thread didn't title it "If you could choose 5 photographs from DPC". We are all pointing out good works when we vote on the challenges. But that's when we don't know who entered what. The parallel to this is to post who are your "statistically favorite photographers" as has been done in several threads. Mine are:
dinn
qnjt
Andelain
Pep Ventosa
TerryGee
SharonS
Quadrajet
Paclo ...and your fellow Texan
SandyP,
all of whom I have scored in 10 or more challenges.
Who are yours? Are they the same as the seven you posted earlier in this thread?

I see your logic, but most people's photos don't make it into challenges, so they might have a ton of work you enjoy that you never had to vote on. |

Exactly... and the question was who we would hire for varied talent. I would hire who I said I would...just because they may not be my statistical favorites from a voting standpoint doesn't mean I couldn't hire them in my own little fantasy world of photographic perfectdom.

Quite true. But the photographers who show up in your Statistically Favorite Photographers with 10 or more votes are undeniable not there because of sycophantism. The others may or may not be. We are all human, and as hard as we might try to ignore it, knowing who took the shot will, to some extent, enter into your opinion of the shot, and secondarily influence your opinion of the person as you know them from earlier impressions of both images and forum posts.

My list:
BradP - because I could probly convince him to fix my transmission
bear_music - because I heard he throws a killer clambake
Strikeslip - Cuz he would probly be much fun to have beers with
Joey - because he seems to attract the ladies
Jutilda, roadrunner, taterbug, laurielblack, Rikki, CalliopeKel, palmetto_pixels, and some others I can't think of because they have great sense of humors - senses of humor? whatever.
Yeah, sure, most of those on my list are great photogs as well, but being a sycophant, I had to go with what I might get the most real benefit from by posting their names.

I can assure you I am no suck up to anyone (just ask my kids and hubby!)
That wasn't the reason I started this thread. I often times think about who/what would make the most dynamic team if I had my choices about the different photographers on this site. Somewhat of a Dream Team Scavenger Hunt of sorts.
I'm with kpriest....'Yeah, sure, most of those on my list are great photogs as well, but being a sycophant, I had to go with what I might get the most real benefit from by posting their names'.
