Thought I would share the first bunch of edited photos from my cousin Marnin's wedding in Trinidad California this weekend. Not only was this my first opportunity to photograph a wedding; it was the first wedding I have had the pleasure of attending. As you can tell from the photos, the wedding wasn't quite "traditional", but it was a marvelous joyful celebration and I can't imagine a wedding being any better.

My photography will be my wedding gift to the couple and I hope they are pleased with my images. I still have tons of photos to edit. The ones I posted here have JPR style. I'm going to give them normal color versions as well.

Let me know what you think. I'll be uploading more throughout the week (or weeks :)

Here is my personal favorite of their son Levi, titled a "A Toast to the Kids of the World" (you'll get it if you look at the photo)

The rest of the images are HERE

I can see that thay are in your style. I would like to see "normal" color version you are going to share. I'm not much into black and white and I think wedding needs to be in color. That's just me.

What a lovely and fun wedding!!!! Excellent job, especially for a first time!!!!!! I think they're beautiful...full of emotion and texture. Color would get in the way of the feelings, IMHO. Well done! :)

Yes. The color shots don't work nearly as well for me. People weren't wearing matching colors like in more formal weddings and there was a lot of purple that drew the eye rather than the white of the bride's dress and groom's shirt. I will still give them to them, however, because some people like Nikolai just don't like black and white for whatever reason and I respect that.

awesome, J. they'll be very happy with those. I disagree about weddings needing to be entirely in colour. These photos capture the spirit of the wedding very well, and that's what the couple will want to remember.

Excellent job.

gorgeous photos, Jason...they're gonna love 'em! i think your style makes them very unique and much more fun and than the usual boring wedding pics. great work...you rock!

They're marvellous Jason. I'd just give then the black and whites, with your style written all over them - not even the duotones. All you stuff works for tonality, and works for shape and texture anyway - sure sometimes the colour is a bonus, but I'd think the coherence of a collection presented in the same mode throughout would way more than outweigh that.

A real sense of spirit in that stuff my friend: a real sense of humanity, whihc is what photography should always be about, without fail.

Cool stuff Jason! Being from Santa Cruz CA (down the coast from Trinidad) this wedding atmosphere is more commonplace than here in NY where the limo/hall/$250.00+ a plate weddings seem to be the norm. Looks like everyone is having a great time and your pics will be treasured I'm sure!

Beautiful work dude! Really nice stuff. I agree, that I think you should give them the photos edited YOUR style. That not only makes the gift more personal, but I think you generally bring the emotion/mood of the image to the forefront quite nicely. Congrats on a great set of photos!

Thanks. That seems like a good idea and actually what I was trying to do with a lot of them. I spent all this time working on a quadtone I really liked but I sort of forgot the nature of quadtones that they come out looking different on different photos.

You did awesome, this is how weddings should be. If I ever get married, I'll let you take the pictures.

I'll leave some comments

good work... i would have to echo the comments about wishing the pictures had the same feel to them only in color rather than black and white.

Great job, I'm sure your cousin will be very thankful for you immortalizing so many precious moments.

I'll try to get some color versions posted so people can compare them side by side (as well as editing the rest of the photos). Very busy this week. Hopefully I'll find time to get it done this weekend and I'll post then. Thanks for looking/commenting everybody, it is extremely helpful to me.

I really love the capture and emotion in your shots. The JPR touch brings out the feeling in the picture instead of looking at color matching. These are really great! Would've loved to have you do our wedding. =) Well done.

Here's one I already have a color version of. Which do you prefer and why?

oh, and pardon the automated white border that cut off the bottom of the dress... :)

(I had to climb a tree to get this one)

As it is YOUR gift to them I would give them a main album with all the photos in your style
then a second album with smaller color shots and put a cd of all the edited shots in the back
then they get the best of both worlds and you still get your style across and I think the main album will be their treasured one

The black and white - and I don't think you need an answer to that, Jase. Look at the impact of the shapes the people form in the black and white, as opposed to the rather less relevance of the circle in the colour. Look how the progression from green to brown becomes important in the colour, and irrelevant in the b/w; look how the primary attention is on the bride in the black and white, and less so in the colour. Colour so often (as it does here) becomes simply a record of a scene, for all the good contrast - black and white adds the photographer's eye.

Thanks a lot, and yes, I do know which one I prefer and think is better. I just wanted to see if anyone actually preferred the black and white and what their reasoning might be.

I've been editing all day and I have a lot of really great shots, only about five of which work as well in color as they do in black and white.

Great job I really like the way that you shoot. Keep going B/W. Its much more expressive.

I'm not a fan of most color shots so I may be biased. But B-n-W is much more timeless.

Portfolio has been updated with all new shots (ran out of server space to post them all at once). This new batch is even better than the rest. If you really love any of them leave a comment or add as a favorite or I am sure they will dissappear when it comes times to share the next batch. I have decided on using this one quadtone for all the photos. Thanks for all the input.

J

Photos are still HERE
Please take a look. I am really proud of these.

What a magical gift you are giving them, it's hard to pick a favourite as there are so many great shots to choose from.

Good work JPR!!

jason, i love the bw work. its totally your style and works for the wedding. I am impressed by the shots you've gotten up so far -- you've captured joy and emotion without any sort of "staged" look. Well done!
