Yeah me too. I am really proud of my shot and the voting reflected my pride but it's been downhill from the 6.02 that I maintained last night (currently 5.902). I'm not bitching, it'll be my highest yet, as long as I don't drop any more.

DNMC?? How exactly is 90% of the Sunny Planet going to "meet the challange?" If I had "created" the rain effect, would that have been different? Since I live in a sunny place 99% of the year (with the RARE exception last winter) I had to do what I could - PLEASE THINK OUT OF THE BOX and don't assume everyone gets rain! We had to "find the rain" per the challenge - I did - it's just not the same as others - stop trashing people of their photos just because you are mad they live in a nicer part of the land. :) Also - to the person who came up with this idea for the challenge; THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER FOR A RAIN PROJECT? - Reeks of creative thinking in my book...so stop hammering people for getting creative. Im off the soapbox. |

I understand your frustration. However, it could be the middle of the summer where you are in but probably not for other folks. It's a hit or miss and I think you just do the best to accomplish the task. Don't get me wrong as i too have been "penalized" for not having rain. The comment I received is something like "this is fake and I caught you". Anyway, brushing that aside, I just tend to move on and not let that bother me. It did irk me for a few minutes but then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Apparently my image is like the others and it's one of those "not again?" images. Oh well. I take photos for my own satisfaction and not because I want to satisfy the vast majority of the DCP crowd. I take their comments and learn and move on. Just look at all my outtakes :)
Anyway, just so you know:

I'm adopting a "blurt out before I think" comment policy for this challenge. I'm going to try to at least "blurt" on every photo as I go, then go back and edit top & bottom scores. I'll see how many enemies I make by telling it how I see it. I'm trying to figure out if honesty really is the best policy. So far I'm at about the 70 mark.
Just because my comment may sound curt or harsh, I score on a 5 to 10 scale, so you're probably getting a higher score from me than from most other people, but if there's a DNMC in my comment, you got a 4.
I try not to pretend to know what I'm talking about. I try to describe what I like or don't like. These are my opinions as a viewer.
Please don't hate me.
-edit: personally, I've grown to prefer brutal comments on my own entries.

As the one that spurred my comment in this thread...:) I just think we need to realize that to "meet" the challenge, you need to see that not everything is literal - the "go find" part specifically. Maybe think about the creativity of the shot and how some of us sunny-weather people made do with what we could...I could've lied and put on an old shot from my vacation up north, but I stuck to the honest rules of "time frame" and I would question some of the "real rain" shots personally! Did you see the weather reports for that week?? Just a thought. :) |

You are about the funniest person on here Strike - you kill me! Even if you DNMC'd me. I'm ok with it. :) I love the humor you share on here. Thanks for that. |

if the challenge is rain and it doesnt rain where you live, then dont enter. you dont have to enter every challenge. if the challenge was mustard and you photographed ketchup, are we supposed to think "oh well he/she must not have mustard, so they used the next best thing, wtg"! i dont think so.

What is RAIN? It's "falling" water! Plain and simple... :) Here's a definition but I was biased in picking just this one as it says exactly what I need it to
"Falling water drops with a diameter greater than 0.02 inch."

If you've spent your time thinking about this "blurt first" philosophy then please take the time to tell the challenger WHY they received a DNMC from you. |

That`s precisely what I did..and I live in Scotland....who would believe I wouldn`t get the chance to enter a rain challenge?..we`re in a spell of the driest weather for many years. |

Yep, I can't believe people are complaing about conditions not being conducive for the latest challenge.
Next we'll be hearing that it's not fair because no-one was playing any live music in their part of the world!
