Earlier today - after my score had climbed .054 in one day (after 250 votes - no small accomplishment, I think), I announced it. Now it has given back every point it has gained in the last two days.
Is this typical? Do people see what others are getting and then go out and slash their votes on everyone hoping to bring their place in teh challenge higher?
Or am I paranoid? To keep this thread from getting belligerent and off task, please reply with either "Typical" or "Paranoid" :) Thank you

Typical. This week has been weird. My score went from a high 5 down to 4 in 2 hours in the first 2 hours of the voting, from 5-30 votes. Then it went back to the middle of 4 and stayed there and only varies a little. I think at the end there will probably be more votes thrown away as teh admins runs the scrip that attempts to detect if anyone has been maliciously giving out 1's, i usually notice the sccore i see on sunday evening versus the final score varies by as much as 0.2~0.3

A little paranoia with a hint of reality... Weekends (and late Friday afternoon) many folks start the final adjustments to their votes. I don't believe too many folks vote with the intent of pushing down others scores so they do better. I'm sure it happens, but this site seems to have a high degree of honor.
[Spell-checked for your safety :) ]

Oh, come on with your silly threads about the score. I presume you have entered in enough challenges to know the routine so why starting all those threads about? |

Sigh, so much for not wanting the thread to get belligerent. . .
Anyway, paranoid (but that doesn't mean we AREN'T out to get you <evil grin>)

Let me clarify the above post that I made in a moment of sheer exasperation. The same thread about the allmighty score was started two days. It has so little substance that within 6 posts or so it veers off topic. One person will say that the score is largely meaningless anyway and why. Then that comment gets misunderstood and nasty responses get fired off. Then the first person feels obliged to defend his/her position. Two hundred posts later (and everybody feeling drained by the exercise), the thread finally gets locked. Then the same day a similar thread gets started again!!! Oh, please... So, yes, I was extremely exasperated that it was déjà vu all over again :) I could understand the question by someone who has just entered his first or second challenges.
One is not getting extra credit for starting threads. I also read MarkRob's comment about how good he was at starting inciteful threads. It seems to me this was just one more attempt because otherwise one would let the whole thing rest for a while and only start a thread if there is something really of interest to share.
This is all I'm going to say about it and will not respond to any further posts. I wish everybody a pleasant evening.

I was just curious about the score I was getting and whether it was good or not.... this is an odd challenge and I wanted to see how everyone is doing at it.
I guess this is just the competitve, curious side coming to the forefront. It's ugly, I know.
You have a pleasant evening (I bet I have a more pleasant one though, :) )

I think you are paranoid, :-)
My score has fallen like a lead balloon all week long!
