I like to give my tribures to the living so that they can partake of the accolades.
This one is the amazing Joey lawrence. A young teen who competes like a consumate artist. First: consider his current camera. The Olympus D-600L 1.4 megapixels. Here this resourceful young man takes stock of the limitations of this point and shoots and then uses his creativity to utilize and surpass its phsyical qualities.
You can say that this individual has so much talent that he is able to compete with the batteries of superior equipment available and beat them in many instances.
I was highly impressed when he mentioned in one of his notes that he carried a reflector to the field. This simply tells you Joey is aware of the all important light and shadow play of which many photographers are not truly aware.
This tribute should serve as encouragement to those who do not possess the latest equipment and to those who do, do catch up and remember that creativity is the name of the game even if your output does not exceed lovely candid images. You must master your instrument and your understanding of the basics, in order to speak fluently through it.
Here is one image that blew me away while I was placing images in placeholders while voting. The image froze me and I was force to leave an immediate comment. I usually return for the comments. This image is about moods and look at how this challenge was met and then exceeded by this strong masterpiece. One is able to participate in this almost primordial scream. Joey is an artist.
With the image Journey through the middle, he brings forth a fantasy image using a cardboard model and then he puts together a composition that is so pleasing as he takes advantage of the green foliage.
Now, I will invite you to take a minute and peruse his portfolio. There is so much in here in tecnique, creativity and such a cool artistic eye that it would take a book to give this young man full credit. All I can say is that Joey may very well be the most creative talent on this site and he is bound to become more and more dangerous as he adds more year to his current age.
You will appreciate the work and I hope that it propels you to become inspired. His work has certainly inspired me.

There is a huge amount of creative energy here. He tries to see the world in new ways. He takes many risks. Many of them pay off immediately in good photos. I'm betting that they will pay off in bigger ways - assuming he finds a way to keep doing photography that takes such risks - well into the future. In the mean time, I feel really privileged to share a creative space with someone who has so much creative energy.

Agreed - one of the rising stars around these parts.
I tried to compete head to head, but gave up and conceded to his talent.
Joey - you are going places. You have a level of creativity some of us can only wish for, and need to upgrade your equipment ASAP!

Lurking in the darkest corner of your imagination, he is a master chef. He will toss your forgotten dreams on his barbecue and father a feast for all to consume.

How wonderful of you Daniel to point the spotlight, and who could argue that Joey is so deserving. Loads of talent already displayed, it's gonna be a lot of fun to watch him progress (read, "smoke us" ) through the years.
Even so, there is one shot of his that gives us average schmo's hope:
POTS
That one is still a favorite of mine for the humor... I think it was just the kid in him coming through! Congrats, Joey, well deserved. |

It's great to have someone like Joey around to point to when someone blames their low scores on their equipment, budget, experience, location, blah blah blah... Granted, it's not a FAIR example because Joey is one of those prodigal, abnormally creative freaks of nature, but I still like to do it. ;-P

Isn't he amazing? I too like the Stop/Pots photo. When I'm talking creative photography to anyone, I always have to tell them about Joey's photo. Who else would have "thunk" it?

When I first arrived at DPC earlier this year, I immediately noticed that these dark creative images were coming from somebody named Joey Lawrence. I went to his Portfolio and was blown away. He is 15?!?!?
I considered hanging up my camera at that point, but instead have used him and his work as inspiration for me and my little Gateway DC-T50 camera.
To top it off, he's a really nice guy. I know we will continue to see great things from this young artistic talent. He's truly remarkable!

Yup, gotta agree with everyone else on this one. Joey Lawrence rocks.
And I've got a month to win a blue ribbon and beat his record for the youngest ribbon winner. ;)

I was trying to convince my brother to join dpc, since he likes to take pictures almost as much as me. I pointed him over to Joey's profile and said, "Look at what this guy can do!"
My brother never joined. He must have been too intimidated by Joey's awesomeness.

I'd contribute to the 'Get Joey a dSLR' fund as long as it's a Nikon and he drops in for a beer when in England :)

no no no, he wants a camera that has a built in screen protector, not a camera what looks like you have scotch tape on the screen ;)

Behave, we all know that Nikon make cameras that look and feel good, thus giving the photog total ability to concentrate on the shot. Anyway, if Joey takes the Nikon route I'll throw in my daughter for goodwill, can you match that?
