I find myself somewhat disappointed with the challenge subjects and decided to make a motion to change- even if it goes no where, atleast I can say I tried, right?? Lol. Here are a few ideas to start off with, but the whole intention of this post is to get new ideas that other photographers are aching to enter and hopefully will be viewed by the deciding eye.

New subject ideas: landscape, light, shadows, adventure, right, wrong, inspiration, torment, divided, art, evolution, faith, book or movie titles, heros, villains, seasons, change, holidays, love, fear, the-world-as-you-see-it, random photography...

Please add to the list with anything you have been waiting to become a subject!

I vote for anything of a compostitional technique or technical type of challenge. We've kinda gotten away from that for awhile. I mean things likes shallow DOF, texture, panning, soft focus, motion, stop action, high key, low key, splash of color or one I can't figure out with a flash unit that doesn't really match my camera correctly, flash photography...

painterly, motion and motion blur, color, B&W, abstract, grainy, triptych, rivers, wide angle, imitate the style of a famous photographer or artist

I second Neil's painterly, motion and motion blur, grainy and abstract suggestions. Let's get some artsy challenges then everyone's in the same boat and the excuse of an image being 'too artsy' will be less frequent.

Something Silly- give us a creative composition that screams silliness.

Off the top of my head...

*Determination or Perserverance - Convey the feelings of determination and/or perserverance in an image.
*Loyalty - capture an image that portrays the concept of loyalty that might connect two living things.
*The Sky's the Limit - photograph something relating to the sky, either daytime or at night.
*Infinity - try to bring the concept of infinity to life in a photograph.
*Caring - be compassionate and show how much you care (you, or someone else, or maybe even something else).
*Superstitions and Old Wive's Tales - take a photograph that brings a favorite superstition or old wive's tale to life.

I'm all for these (I'll pass on the motion unless you can count handshake :)) I would have loved to have had a stab at the impressionism challenge. Or to try a Picasso...

I certainly enjoyed that one. ;-D

Bear in mind that a title or general topic isn't enough to get into the challenge database. We need a complete concept (title and description). Here's couple that I thought of today...

Bad Disguise Take your best shot of a disguise or camouflage that obviously isn't working.

Cheater! Deception is the name of the game. Show someone or something that clearly isn't playing by the rules. Yes... the challenge rules still apply.

I've got several. Here they are:

1) These are the Dave's I know.

2) Where are my good scissors?

3) 26

4) Crusty

5) Fun things with navel lint.

6) Twilight

7) Secret sins

8) Hats

9) Bugs caught in your radiator grill.

10) Candid toe shots on Wednesday.

Could be a different kinda fun for a while. ;-)

I was going to suggest Relections without Mirrors a couple of days ago but discovered it has already been done back in Sept '02

funky challenge like the last rubber ducky challenge - 5 weird objects that don't go together etc..

The challenge I really enjoyed was "painting with light" - but let us have some more challenge like landscape, water, advert, postcard, people etc

Holiday Snaps

I for one find it difficult to generate any holiday snaps that are so obviously holiday snaps but have some photographic merit

Write your challenge title with a clear description and it will likely end you in the challenge que. Dont make D and L write the parameters AND take the heat for it.

Painting with light can be fun. I went to an exhibit on Friday for a photographer who does primarily night photography where the primary light source is what she paints with.

Her name is Chantal Thorlakson. //www.CountryAndNaturePhotography.ca

One of her waterfall images is a 15 minute exposure where the only light is painted over the water.

Now, I think for a REALLY unique challenge, we SHOULD try having JUST the title, without the (apparently) confusing extra description.
Extra Rule: Anyone who posts to a forum discussing the "meaning of the challenge topic" is INELIGIBLE.

How about Great Art - photographically re-create one of the great masters' paintings.
Extra rules: you cannot include the original painting (or copy of the painting) in your photograph and the title of your entry must be the title of the painting you are re-creating.

Examples: Take a photo of girls dressed up and doing the can-can to emulate Lautrec or take a photo of a nude redhead with a giant seashell behind her to portray the "Birth of Venus" or dress up a long-haired little boy in a blue satin suit to portray "Blue Boy" or recreate one of Maxfield Parrish's landscapes or Norman Rockwell's scenes.
