Being as lazy as I am, I'd swap out routers one at a time with a known good one. |

The site is running slow because everyone keeps clicking the update button. |

Yes....slower than molasses on a cold day.

Just joined the site, don't know the speed before, but I think it's rather slow occasionally.

Yep. Sometimes it's normal, and then other times, it takes 30-60 seconds to respond.
I checked and noticed (if it's any help) that the same time DPC stalls, DPCPrints stalls. |

Seems to be fixed now. Is it fixed for anyone else? What was the problem, did they find the bad router?

Mine has been pretty good today here at work, also. I am hoping it really is fixed now and not just a fluke today. I haven't voted at all today - would be interested in hearing from folks who have. That was really getting slow for me. |

Still buggy here and at home. Often it's still click and then sit back and watch the animated cursor churn away... |

It is definitely on our end. We are still making baby steps... you'll notice that the gallery pages are substantially quicker now. My next goal is to work out the remaining browse photo pages since at best they process in 2.5 seconds (quite slow when compared to the home page loading at 0.036 seconds just now). After that, we will be looking into the forum search.

I don't think it's necessarily something that is 'fixable' -- it seems like it comes and goes. It will go fast for a while then for like 10 seconds, it will go really slow. For the amount of traffic this site receives, I'd say it's probably normal to have some lag at certain times in spurts. Although it does get annoying at times...and I will admit to going elsewhere because I don't feel like waiting for pages to load.

It does not really bother that much, only when voting. It can get slow at times. With the schedule I have, it tends to get old. |

I imagine this is unrelated but I have always had to wait at least 45 seconds for Jean Jacques Beguin's profile to load: //www.dpchallenge.com/profile.php?USER_ID=3585. I have the impression that some of the profiles for other members who have been at the site for a while and have a lot of challenge entries also seem slow. The slowness of these queries suggests that this delay might be related to the database engine.
I have noticed a different slowness recently but have not been so annoyed with it as the 'long time member profile' delay.

Originally posted by BradP: Sometimes it runs just fine, bam, bam, bam, then it hangs, for up to a minute or more with the animated cursor just churning away. Hitting stop, reload does nothing either (Firefox). IE6 is the same. Just have to wait it out.
It was this hang that didn't allow me to unsubmit my Accidental Letter picture, and though I have requested it a couple times (3rd) reply and again (6th) reply) and have even tried to bring it to Admin/SC attention via Report Post button twice.
Not a peep.
Edit to add:
Thank You - I see it has been removed now. |
Which one was it Brad? |

JJ's profile: 5 seconds, my own 3 seconds, yours 4 seconds, langdon's 5 seconds (cable, Mac OS X v. 10.3.8, Safari).

It just took 20+ seconds for the site to come back after I hit post reply.
The site seems to be very sporadic, as Brad and others have said. I have been doing other things but checking in periodically, and sometimes I can't even afford to wait for the refresh. Other times it's as fast as ever.
I think it's something that definitely needs to be addressed! Maybe they need more servers and load balancing.
Maybe we need to abolish the update button ;)
Don't look at me--I've only been in one challenge in the past month or so. ;) |

It was doing OK, but was too much of a snapshot in my opinion. |

Is DPC still "slow" for the rest of you?
Yes.
