And just a couple of the many great ones I've received:
Sunset Storm
Comment by jodiecoston:
"Whereas a lot of these shots seem to be taken from a window for no reason other than that's what the challenge asked for, the window here actually serves a purpose. Mixed with the motion blur, you really get the feeling you are riding in a train, and the lovely pastel tones make this image really work. Great job!"
Overcast at the Harbour
Comment by JPR:
"10. I absolutely love this shot but I don't see it doing all that well in the challenge, but I hope I'm wrong. The simplicity is perfect. The lines tones and shadows are a gentle mix of pattern and chaos. An urban jungle. Oh, it could represent or be so many things. It is art and belongs in a gallery selling for a ridiculous price."

The upsetting of one's expectations of zones in photography is strongly done here. Muted sense of progression of light, and of texture in the roof (?) lend just enough contrast to the absolute lines. The almost pointless seeming light adds that moment that is all that is needed to tip it into the real. Lovely work.
This is my Fav as it was on one of my lowest scoring challenges so far, and was good for the ego Cheers ed.

The sea is calm tonight.
The tide is full, the moon lies fair
Upon the straits; on the French coast the light
Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand,
Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay.
Come to the window, sweet is the night air!
Only, from the long line of spray
Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land,
Listen! you hear the grating roar
Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling,
At their return, up the high strand,
Begin, and cease, and then again begin,
With tremulous cadence slow, and bring
The eternal note of sadness in.
Yep. You got it! 9
The on that really sticks in my mind though, was the first comment on my highest-scoring shot:
from Mavrik: 'Blue. 10'

For any that aren't aware of this, that comment is a quote from Matthew Arnold's famous poem "Dover Beach". Dover beach is the site of the famous "white cliffs of Dover". I had assumed, myself, that this fine image was of those cliffs, but apprently County Sussex has white chalk cliffs as well.
Robt.

I forgot to put my fav comment before so I'll add it now, it was on my best of 2004 and the reason it is a fav comment is because I hold the commenter in very high esteem so it was an honour for me to recieve such a comment from him

you were robbed! this is such an amazing photo (even with the distracting border.) of course, a 6.249 score is nothing to be ashamed of, I just wish your originality and creativity had been rewarded with a higher score.

Here's a medley of humour and paradox, keen and profound interest, apathy, sincerity and utter confusion, despair... just the kind of thing you can expect to find adorning your next masterpiece:
e301:
Something weird: that, is my coffee table. It becomes, naturally, almost the only thing I can see in this photograph. Or at least, gives the image a range not intended by you. Truly co-operative.
soup:
i tried to add this to my favs for a 2nd time, but an error occured
e301:
Oh hell this I love - it's like they've escaped, those scars of age. The replication of their pattern in the sand speaks of both the temporary and the permanent (we note that fossilised tree-rings have been used to determine environmental variations in millenia past - they are truly part of the permanent record), and yet the marks in the sand, we know, will not be there tomorrow. The light, editing of light, use of light, is wonderful.
JPR:
This photograph says it all without me even having to know what it is
jmritz:
It is a beautiful day outside and I am sitting here looking at this photo. I feel fear isolation and imprisonment. Maybe images inspired from my viewing to many horror films in my youth are what evoke these emotions. Very powerful image. And now I will go outside and stand in the sunlight because I realize I can.
Imagineer:
...I actually believe that I'm looking at the 'perfect photograph'
Kali:
Am I missing something? I don't get it.
clues56:
This is probably some literary thing that I don't understand.

from Gringo for my December free Study:
This is an award winning shot. The subject is simple and to the point. The color is phenomenal; you’ve managed to accentuate the wood grain without distracting from your subject. Incredible detail throughout right down to the vignette border. 10
This belongs in a gallery!
From Shelley for My Road signs Re-visited shot "Double Take" cause it just made me laugh:
Do they have to live in the woods there??!!! Why that's no fair! :-}
From Sgauria for my Three entry, again cause it's humorous:
Confuscius say,"You need better focus."

I came across this comment left on an entry for the first Architecture challenge back in 2002. The recipient was trying his hardest to come last. Ironically, he didnt succeed.
"I hope you get the help you so desperatly need. Don't give up, Moses was once a basket case too"
