Yes, that sounds awesome! I hope I have enough room on my CF cards! :) Tom, I don't know what time we'll be back, so maybe you'll want to tag along in a convoy so you don't feel pressured for time and can leave whenever you want.

Yay poppies & bit cats!!!!

Ok, I am off to bed. See you all in the morning in Glendale or at the Visitor's Center. We are leaving Glendale at 8am. If there is traffic, we might be late to the visitor's center. But hopefully we'll be there on time.

If any of you are running late to Glendale, call me asap! I'll be up at 6:45am.

Brian, Sandman
I sent you a messege for your e-mail address, as I want to send pics that I took of you.
It was fun as always, hope the big cat reserve was good, too bad I couldn't attend that as well.

How were the poppies? I am planning to take my family tomorrow and maybe see that big cat place. I wanted to try to join you guys today, but family obligations kept me here. Thanks.

I had fun too! except, i had a little car trouble after i left!! i just got back! apparently i was low on coolant, which i think was my main problem.. my car started overheating, but i didn't really realize what was going on and it ended up smoking a little before i did. a really nice fellow that saw what happened pulled over to help me and gave me some antifreeze/water. after that, i let the engine cool and tried starting it to no avail! got it towed to the ford dealership in lancaster and had a friend pick me up =( - according to the tow truck driver that picked me up, there was a recall on the gaskets for my make/model/year and he said he's towed a lot of them over the years for the same problem (overheated, bad gaskets).. i suppose that would explain why eric said he saw liquid coming out of my exhaust. anyway, i'm back fine and i'm thinking ford should cover the costs since it was a recall issue. anyway, i'll edit my photos tomorrow i suppose (don't think i'll be going snowboarding anymore :p). it was fun meeting and shooting with everyone, i'll hope to meet up with you all again in the future as our schedules allow. i'll post some pics online when i get the chance.

Hi Everyone,

Wow, what a great day!! I had such a fun time! Fritz (kirbic), Raul (sandman) and I stayed at the fields for the rest of the day. We even found a really cool green rattle snake to photograph. We ran into Patty & her boyfriend again by the rattle snake around 3:50pm. Then, we headed over to 170th off of Ave D for more shots before driving Ave D all the way to the 5 and coming home that way. We stopped at Denny's for dinner. Then, Fritz showed me some photoshop techniques while Raul waited for the bus. It's 9:42pm and I just got a shower. Wow, I was dusty! I wonder how my camera survived this!!!?? I saw some spots in lots of my photos, so sad. I need to do a full cleaning tomorrow!

I'll try to post some photos tomorrow.

Eric, can you email me a high quality image of our group shots? I would really love to print those! :)

I just looked at a few of the shots and thy look great! Seems like I missed a great photo safari. I'm not going to miss Anza for sure now! I need some inspiration to get back into things here as I've been totally out of it the last few months. Anywho, great job everyone!

I know what's planned for April, what's planned for May? I hope something urban, how about downtown or Santa Monica?
03/13/2005 01:42:35 AM · #64
Arie,
Thanks again for coordinaating, and for driving too! You rock!
03/13/2005 02:15:27 AM · #65
I haven't thought about May yet. I'll start a thread to get some opinions. :)

to anyone editing their jpeg shots, i've found that the (photoshop) adjustments-->shadow/highlight works WONDERS with my lizard shots. they were all low contrast and didn't have much color definition, but by playing with the settings, i've definitely salvaged some of them. i just wish it came in an adjustment layer.

Don, it was great meeting you too! I look forward to seeing your shots. You should also consider lending your son a camera while you go on outings... he really enjoyed using Patty's point/shoot camera!

Brian, thanks for the tip. I am going to try that shadowlight out today! Sorry about your car trouble :(

Talking about post processing. I've tried the new version of Corel's Rawshooters Essentials v 1.1 and it's really a great free program to work on the RAW pics. Now I never shoot JPEG. Definitely check it out if you don't have a nice RAW processing program already.

If I could get free passes to Queen Mary, would anyone be interested on shooting on it for May?

03/13/2005 08:15:32 PM · #71
Um, yeah!!!! :)
03/13/2005 08:51:24 PM · #72
Ok, I'll try to wrangle up some tickets. I know some managers at Queen Mary at work.

I'll try for 5 tickets, I think that should suffice.

i just finished editing.. some came out good, and some not as great. here are a selection of pictures, including all the ones that i took which had DPCers (sorry, didn't get a lot of those).

here they are

pllleeeasse let me know if you would change anything about them (unnatural colors, bad tones, color cast, composition, cropping, position, over/undersharpened, anything!), as i'm always trying to learn (i notice that i will like one picture and see nothing wrong with it.. then edit it, and then think it looks 10x better.. so i'm sure that a lot of these could still use a ton of improvement that i may be missing). raw adjustments on pretty much everything, including some shadow/highlight work on some (especially the jpegs i had of the lizard).

let me know if you guys want any larger versions, i just didn't want to post the huge files to that album cuz it would take forever to upload and view.

Brian,
They are great overall. I like the lizard ones. On 18/20 it was a bit dark to see the eyes easily, perhaps dodging the eyes??? The wasp is great, I didn't get any good ones, as many as I took. Congrats. First pic, I just didn't get. Having one thing focused would draw the attention to that, but since everything is out of foucus, I didn't know where to focus my attention to first. 6/20 is great, one yellow in the lower one thirds surrounded by orange flowers. Following the rule of thirds heh?
Good job.

I agree with Tom 100% on these. By the way, your color is amazing. I didn't get those brilliant colors. What settings did you mostly use? Did you do any color work in PS? Amazing :)
