I like what the light does to the bottom of the two vertical ones. They are well framed also. I think they would be a little more interesting with something else in the frame in addition to the boat. But then again, they do have a calming quality about them. |

I like :-)
I love the colors and the peace and quiet in the pictures.
My favorite of this series is the 3rd one. I find it's composition to be the best with the boat just a little bit away from the lights sparks on the water.
Oh well, apparently the rule of 3/4 of the frame always work on me :-)

Thanks y'all... I was hoping for more boats or some birds or something to come into the area but it just didn't happen. Oh well. Maybe next time. Thanks again for the comments and suggestions! :o)

Laurie - I just wanted to ask if you intended the purple cast to the images or not. Or if it is my monitor. What did the scene look like when you were viewing it, and did the camera catch this or have you color shifted? Just wondering. Great shots. Water and sunsets - doesn't get much better!

I boosted the color saturation about 10 points in all of them, and on the last one I used the gothic glow action. It caused it to be more colorful than the others. I boosted the colors to spice it up a little, since it was kind of monochromatic and I wanted it to look closer to sunset. :o)

I like the second one the best; I like the intervening negative space between the boat and the sliver of reflection.
In the first one, I don't care for the boat sailing out of the frame -- maybe you can flip it around; try playing with Curve/Levels adjustments even more ... I like changing the colors around more than applying filters ... something like this:
The last two I find the reflections a little too predominant, or maybe too much blown-out area, although the composition of the third one, with the boat just entering the reflection, is really good.
These happened to remind me of this one I took on my summer vacation, which I was just working on (pretty much natural colors on this one):

Here's a couple of sailboat shots I took over Christmas. Just got around to editing them tonight (well, this morning I guess now)
I was lucky enough to get invited out on the photographer's boat for the 14' Internationals class National finals in Adelaide - a whole lot of fun! |
