i second this notion, and i would also suggest people make sure that their gamma settings are correct so that they view the picture the way the photographer intended |

Exactly! It really ticks me off when someone says "it's too dark."
Adjust your monitor! If you don't believe your monitor is messed up just print the photo out as-is and see. |

I've concluded that comments are always going to contradict eachother. What one person complains about.. someone else will love.
I think it would be interesting to know how many people could actually see the stem in my yellow entry though. It is shaded on the right side, but I CAN see it. Apparently not everyone could ... which totally changes the shot IMO. |

i see it just fine, indi! the slight line of light in the same yellow hue as the flower, which turns into a subtle green--then fades to black! i can almost make out the diameter of the stem the whole way down....i think it is gorgeous. beautiful lighting--beautiful shot! :)

There IS a photo that I commented on, and part of my comment was that it had kind of a "fuzzy" feel to it. My monitor is calibrated just fine, but just to be sure, I looked at the photo on all 3 of my computers (monitors calibrated on all), and my comment remains the same for that shot. As a matter of fact, in the photo I commented on, I also see signs of what looks like "oversharpening" and/or low JPEG quality, however did not comment on those issues specifically. "Fuzzy" just kind of covers my sense of the shot.

Some say tomayto, some say tomahto....One person's fuzzyness is another's texture.
I'm not so sure this is a case of monitor calibration. More a case of some notice jpeg artifacts or oversharpening and others think artifacts are things found in an archeological dig.
People will have different opinions. We just have to live with it.

Its perfectly clear on my home monitor, which is pretty well calibrated - can't see it at all on either of my work machines though |

I left this comment and I was working from a monitor that was recently calibrated with a Spyder... I will discuss more with you after the challenge is over if you would like..

If my monitor was not adjusted correctly wouldn't I think that all the pictures were too dark? Not just one or two? This is not a snide comment, I really want to know. On occaison I have commented that something was dark and gotten a "no, it isn't" response from the photographer. Yes, I can see the yellow tulip stem very clearly. |
