What's the difference? Seems there could be some similarities with the end results of the just completed Perspective X challenge vs prior Point of View challenge.
Perspective X Description:
"Use perspective to create a dramatic effect with your photograph."
Point of View III Description:
"Use a unique point of view to add interest or drama to your subject."

Both words can mean the same thing.
However, perspective is also a technical term for a group of techniques that create the illusion of 3 dimensions in a 2-dimensional field.
POV is more specifically about the position of the photographer.
Even metaphorically, the terms connote different things. In fact, having "perspective" on something can mean the opposite of having a "point of view" on something. It can mean you were able to "step back" and see a situation outside of your "point of view." Language is fun. I'm not sure there is much difference. Some of my DPL team thought my own entry did not fit the topic. I think our personal definitions differed.
What I found interesting is that it was very similar to another recent entry of mine, but was not as well received. I think the light just wasn't on me the right way and some other things didn't work quite as well. The older one required very little tweaking to get a respectable score while the new one was total meh after a lot more work.

Since there was no definition as to what was meant by "perspective," as pointed out by others, the meanings have tons of overlap. I guess it depends on your background as how you interpret the term, which may affect whether you feel something is "on topic" or not.
For myself, I voted as if both interpretations of the term were just as valid for meeting the challenge. |
