With great zEAL I shall strive for more in spite of the fact my scores have pretty much settled into fivedom.. which is better than fourdom. At any rate, I rEALly like what I'm doing and that's what this is all about, isn't it?

TRY

One of the things that I love about DPC is that it's like the game of golf.

We are trying to learn the game.

With each enTRY, we compete against ourselves... against our current average. If we beat our average, we win! No matter how high or low our average is.

We only compete against ourselves... unless we want one of those virtual ribbons... LOL!

Then... all bets are off!

I played golf back in the 70s and 80s, my aunt and cousins worked at the local golf club so it was easy access. The pro tried to teach our whole family one day but gave up because no one could do anything right, lol. It was a riot. On the other hand, I taught myself and with a few tips was able to hit a pretty good ball. My favorite club was a 4 wood that I bought from a local driving range. Anyway, I was doing pretty good until one day Gus, who was the instructor at the club, decided to teach me some new ways to swing which unfortunately threw my whole game off. In fact, it was so frustrating one hot afternoon I literally threw my club onto the ground in desperation and went into the clubhouse and downed a mug of beer. That seemed to be the end of my golfing career. I'm sure everyone who has tried golf themsELVes has a story to tell so feel free to share it with us!

LUB

I'm not a land LUBber. I'd rather be on a cruise.

That said, I do enjoy it that Hubby turned our horse pasture into a redneck golf course after the horses were gone. It's so redneck! We have a "NO Collared Shirts" rule. :D

We have a bunch of fun with golf bags strapped to the back of the "gator". I drive the cart and cheer. Everyone else tries to play golf.

It's a hoot!

Our four bring friends and I think that's what keeps the coming back in their twenties and thirties! So much silly fun!

If you're ever near Atlanta, give me a shout!

I'll even haul your cLUBs! (on the gator, of course. Not by hand. I'll have wine in those... )

CuriOUS query, gators have taken over in southern FL. They're everywhere. And you have to watch out for them, esp the big ones, they can eat you.. one reason I'm not that anxious to move to FL.

That's funny, but it's no joke those critters are nasty. Watch out for gator hOLEs especially in the lakes! Last year a 12 ft gator dragged a woman into the lake when she was walking her dogs in Davie.

It makes me sad because emails were sent out to residents warning them about that gator and telling them to stay away from that lake area. I DREad having to fight off a gator and I've lived in FL where they are in the lakes. They would cross from the man-made lakes to the canal which ran in back of my parents' home at night and you could see the trail they left behind the next day. There was also a Florida Panther that would walk past the back of their home at night and activate the motion light. I caught a glimpse of him one night when the light went on.. amazing creature.

They're awful, AREn't they!? And they're everywhere down there. The only reason it's illegal to kill them all the time, I understand, is that their skin looks like crocodile skin and crocs are endangered. Alligators ARE like rats down there...

ROC

Actually over-hunting depleted the gator population back in the 70s then in '87 they were removed from the endangered list which accounts for the large number of gators sunning themselves on ROCks and logs along the waterways.

SUN

Well, when people can't enjoy the SUNshine on the lake because the alligators have over run the place, something needs to be done!

I believe the usual process is to ofFER a bounty for "experts" to capture and relocate the FERocious reptiles.

VET
05/08/2019 02:56:22 PM · #541
Evidently, this particular gator was being hunted but hadn't yet been caught so warnings were sent out to local residents to stay away from the area. If you don't take precautions you could become prey which is what happened to this person. I'm not sure how VET fits into this, it's not clear if there were any VETerans or VETerinarians involved.. probably not.

You have to be pretty sPRY to get away from a gator, though the sad tale of those who fail would make a good ballad, like they sing at the Grand Ol' OPRY.

GAT

GATors would love that.. not so sure about people. Seems a little grotesque.. GAToresque. Whatever. I'd rather talk about irises, the golden kind.

GOLly, I even have one of those,

though most of the irises I get to photograph are "fairy" irises, perhaps inspired by the star AlGOL ...

Those are nice too but I'm thinking more along the lines of these:

Golden Irises bloom in late Spring.. probably too early.. no buds yet. NEOn lights la la la.

Purple irises bloom earlier and they're pretty too. PERIwinkle lalala.. don't mind me. I'm floating around the pERImeter of Spring florals. And, then there's the Trout Lilies.

Ah, I didn't know abOUT the various blooming schedules for the different colors -- good tip. I'll try to find a way to add some yellow ones to my rOUTe around town. :-)

You'll have to wait a few weeks for the Golden Irises but they're worth the wait and are usually found near water. Wildflowers are a WONder to behold.

I discovered that their is s bug called a hoplia BEEtle that eats the flowers of irises but not the leaves.
