4.6 for me. My average vote given is more than 1.5 points higher. You all do a pretty good job of taking pictures, but you truly suck at voting. >:P

Hmmm, next 6 votes averaged 3.8 so am guessing it's a love, hate, love, hate kinda shot ;) 21 votes with 5.9 average.

at 4.23 I thought I was a shoe-in for the Brown, but
looks like there's a crowd down here!

Weird. I don't remember offering advice on this one.

With your help I might be at 3.X, Scott

After first two votes: 7.0000
After 28 votes: 5.1786

If this rate of decline continues, it would extrapolate to my score going below zero by Friday.

(I was previously feeling quite excited that I actually captured something abstract. Apparently I'm still missing a key part of that skill set.)

that is a huge drop, abstracts are notoriously always the hardest thing to vote on. Big swings all over the place, I started high also, but am heading for dearth!

Sorry to hear about all these scores falling so much.

Mine is holding tight fortunately. I am sure it must be brown and not green

Guess I missed the meaning of "photo"

One vote this past 24 hours, it was a five, people must be very busy ;)

Maybe it's just me, but I have the sense that "abstract in green" has two components. Everyone has no problem with "green" but some of these images look more like macro realism or perhaps natural realism. I guess artists, including photographers could debate until the cows come home about the meaning and scope of "abstract" but at least a large handful of these images are not remotely what I would consider "abstract."

On the other hand, there is a fairly sizable group that I think meet the definition of the challenge and are very strong images.

The range of scores I have given in this challenge is much wider than usual...on both ends.

I'd be curious if others have thoughts on this.

As for my score?

I don't think it has to be unidentifiable to be abstract, but for me, the point of the image should be a study of the shapes, colors, textures and light, with the actual identity of the subject being coincidental to the image. I frequently shoot images like that and consider them "semi-abstract" when the subject can be readily identified.

Agree with you (Yo_Spiff) 100%. Abstract, to me, is about shape, color, texture, light and how they all come together in a graphic statement. Maybe it's a recognizable object, but viewed in a different way. Whether the subject can be recognized or not is secondary to the result, IMHO.
