Good luck to you - Footrot Flats is SOOOOOOOO non-american, I doubt it would ever happen.
Maybe call it "Footrot Flats on the 4th of July" or a perhaps "A Footrot Flats Thanksgiving" and you may stand a tiny chance...... |

Yea thought it wouldn't fly
I'm the eternal optimist. Could convert Lake Wakatipu and the Earnslaw Into a Disney adventure and I'd get a Blue

I have a dog that looks like Dog, a cat that looks like Horse and I apparently resemble Wal. I even have access to a corgi that looks like Prince Charles so a big YES for this suggestion. Oh, I also have every comic book from the Footrot Flats series.

I wanted to post a link for reading episodes online, in case it got someone interested, but I can't seem to find any!!!!
The only thing I found was a slideshow of front pages, which isn't much good, but at least gives some idea.
Nick, do YOU know of a decent link to share? |

If you google "footrot flats the unofficial site". also google murray Ball will come up with a few hits that will help. the unofficial site has a list of every characters.
Ball was also responsible for the "Stanley" strip about a caveman!!!!! prior to FF

I was thinking if we could widen the challenge as " A Tribute to Murray Ball" this would encompass all his work including Stanley" etc |

'Her love shines over my horizon,
She's a ...
... watermelon'
Love the idea Nick. But alas even if our North American brethren Google it, they will still be forever lost. Dog translates into their culture like Thanksgiving translates into ours. Which is to say, not at all. |

Oh come on, we're not all uncultured fools. We may not be jumping up and down for a challenge we're not totally familiar with, but no one is saying "No way, screw Australians!" It took about 2 hours for this challenge suggestion to turn into a thread trashing North Americans. How is that fair? How is that a positive sharing of culture? |

Not Australians. New Zealanders.
And it''s not un-cultured. It's different cultured.
No slight intended at all. Can't think how or why you took one. Must be a cultural thing I suppose. |

Awww, you blokes. It wasn't too hard to find a great reference to Footrot Flats in Wikipedia and another informative article on Murray Ball.
Ball was friends with Charles Schultz of Snoopy/Peanuts fame, and the article I found says Snoopy and Dog once shared a few frames.
So, sure. let's play! |

I totally agree with aliqui. It's quite the assumption that Americans are automatically against anything from a different culture. We would, however, need examples. |

Same diff. (duck)
To be honest, I know Beetle is from Australia and failed to look up where others were from, hence my Australia comment.

Yes, it was mainly the tone set from the second post that carried through other posts. I read some of that same tone into your post also. It seemed to continue with the theme of North Americans being ignorant and unwilling to learn about other cultures. That may be an accurate representation of some North Americans, but I don't find that to be true here at DPC. We're a pretty bright and curious bunch, IMO.
Personally, I would like to see this challenge go through, because from what I've seen of the comic, it's humorous. We could use more humor around these parts. |

There have been many threads pleading with Langdon to acknowledge other countries/occasions/timings, for example allowing the Canadians to share photos of THEIR version of Independence Day or Thanksgiving, too, but I believe that still hasn't happened - it is always timed for the US, only.
So I dared to point out a pattern (that has often been noticed before), and now I supposedly called every North Amerian ignorant? I have no clue how you got from one to the other..... feels to me like a case of "if the shoe fits".
I had considered getting some Footrot Flats books from the library and scanning a few pages to share, but now I'm not sure about that idea anymore..... I'd probably get told that I thought you were all idots for not being able to google it yourselves :-(
When you're quite finished with me, perhaps we could get back to the topic, try to help find links, and maybe help to talk Langdon into considering the challenge.
But if you feel the need to vent a bit more then that's fine, too - go ahead. Sticks and stones......
Edited to fix typos.... I really should proof read sometimes before I fire it off!

I'm sure no-one on either side meant any disrespect. Sometimes a few words verbally can be humorous whilst the same in writing can be taken as offensive. |

type in Footrot flats the unofficial site in search bar, this will give you the dogs description of the main players, and yes the strip on snoopy is there also. Enjoy |

Perhaps you might take into consideration the fact that being against something or being totally indifferent lead to pretty much the same resulting feelings on the part of the recipient.
Assumptions you say... look back and try to find the number of instances where people from countries other than the USA have made suggestions that were actually accepted, you know, things like national celebrations.
I am not suggesting for one instance that Americans are "Anti" anything... it's just that there are time when some of us get the distinct impression that you really don't seem to give a tinkers damn about the rest of the world.

You are of course absolutely right on both counts my friend. I will attribute my spelling error to frustration, and my recollection of the term to age. :O)
Have a great day.
