We need to move to SW France to capture images of people such as those displayed :-) |

Part of the problem is his town. The town is so incredibly scenic and has wonderful, wonderful characters. So when I see an entry like his money entry, I simply think: If I took a shot of a person at an ATM, it wouldn't work just because the surroundings aren't nearly as evocative. And things like this just don't exist here:
But then he goes and does this:
and this
and then I realize that it's probably not the town. :)
Plus, he can get tones out of B&Ws that I don't think even exist for the rest of us!

Another interesting fact - there's nothing in his portfolio (non-challenge entries) with less than 50 views. I've had shots with 0-2 views for years. :-)
Needless to say, he's very good at what he does. He makes it seem so effortless. My comment on one of his latest ribbons:
"I'm still trying to figure your secret. It can't just be that you have cobbles, and soft light, and wonderful characters who wander around holding giant bouquets of flowers upside down, past perfectly manicured planters and fine wood doors. But somehow you manage to add a perfectly performing cat at just the right point in time. His back leg aloft as the gentleman's foot steps down. I'm beginning to think you have this HUGE soundstage setup somewhere and you direct all these people, with teams of makeup artists, light guys, prop departments, etc. Because you've definitely used up more than your fair share of serendipity!" |

It is difficult to choose only a few - I like them all, lol. His BW work is the best I have ever seen.

So when do we see the soda water spilling out of you, John?! ;) I keep on wondering what you could do next - try to sell some images? Have an exhibition?

I'll jump on the Hatewagon. I couldn't pick one of his images I would like to burn the most. I am ready to dowse his whole portfolio with gasoline and set it ablaze. >:)
On a more serious note, I do admire and appreciate the images John produces. A true master. Congrats on all the successes. |

I hate that he lives in such a killer scenic country with a whole slew of other scenic and historic countries around to go shoot in! There's no cobblestone streets and narrow alleys and topply-looking old buildings gazillions of years old in Canuckistan :-( |

I've hated his work for quite a while now; that's why I've had one of his prints hanging on my wall since last September...

This photo shows the importance of having a style in PP that many DPCers consider inferior to taking the photos.
I hate him for having always a clever idea for the challenge subject no matter how silly and boring it is! ;)

Apart from so many great ideas and interpretations, the above image is a whole seminar by itself.
This is how to deliver an impressive glimpse from an otherwise indifferent scenery.
A big Thanks for the inspiration! |

Doesn't matter how you sort his entries or whether you start at the top or bottom, there are gems all along the way. Here are three that I particular hate, er want to emulate.

I got an idea. I don't have to put all John's work in my Favorites, I can visit his portfolio anytime to feast my eyes.
