Im starting to do better now. Im slowing creeping upward. Im at 6.6 right now. I dont think im doing too bad for my first challenge. Only have 2 comments, dont know if thats good or bad.

So what are the trends for the next 5 days till voting is over. Do votes usually go up some more or do they come crashing down?

The anticipation is killing me to see the results, still got a long time to wait!!! I guess be hitting update over and over again.

Hey Smoke: if this is your first challenge and you are currently ay 6.6 then that is amazingly good. My Congrats. Keep nursing that update. Yes, there are times when a photo gets hits with ones, but at 6.6 you can take a couple of these. Of course, you do not deserve them but we do have some spoilers here who justify their excuse because they are the sole judge. You know, it is an ego thing. This picture looks too good, let me smash it. lol

Well, I got my very first request to submit my original proof file. Does this make me an official member now? I guess I should be flattered that someone would think I have enough Photoshop knowledge to manipulate my photo! Have to admit that the scoring is less than what I'd hoped for but if what others have said holds true about voting and DQ requests then I'm getting what I would expect.

I really thought I'd be doing better this time. I sat out the chocolate challenge...and I'm definitly sitting out the dpc cover challenge. But I thought I'd have at least a top 50 with this balance challenge. I screwed up on my picture though with something I can't mention or it will give it away. But if I hadn't done that..I'm sure I'd be higher right now. I seem to never make it over a 5.0 in any challenge so far. Seems a little disconcerning. I hope my score goes up and I hope ppl put past them the one HUGE flaw I did in my picture. Here's where I'm at as of 11:27pm (central time)

1 comment, 90 votes, 4.8889 avg vote. Would love some more comments so I could get some idea of what people are thinking when they are voting.

Mine is slowly creeping up, at 6.04 now, only 3 comments. This was a fun challenge, now to work on my DPC rock group album cover.

Thought it was a pretty good shot for my first members challenge too :(

No comments either so that makes it even harder to understand!

I've come to the conlusion (based on the few comments I recieved and the voting patterns) that people either "get" my photo, or "don't get it" at all. I was concerned about that happening because I included an element that some might not understand. But it is a cliche element typical of old-school photography and moviemaking. So I didn't think that experienced photographers in a member challenge would have trouble seeing my intentions. I guess I was wrong. It IS also possible that the photo just stinks. But I like it alot and think it's one of my better shots, and in a couple comments I recieved they have given me 9's and 10's. Oh well, Guess I'll focus on the coming challenges.

I'm afraid that I'm going to be *really* addicted to this site now that I have a photo doing well. It's sure more fun that way! ;)

I see shot after shot of simple, well taken photographs without a lot of post manipulation or FX. There are one or two with a bit of dodging/ burning and the selective desaturation challenge was all about that particular effect, but the rest seem just like well taken, competently finished photographs.

Gordon, with the exception that these are not "simple" but extraordinary photographs, I agree with you. I think that the bar has simply been raised so high that I need to rethink the way I work.

I am still not unhappy. So far I almost always sumbittend pictures I wasn't really confident about. Yeah I know I shouldn't just sumbit for the sake of submitting, but I wanted to see how I did and get some feedback (sadly enough the one I liked most (selective desaturation) scored low, the ones I didn't really like (choices and newspaper) scored much better.

Now Words and Balance are two pictures I am really satisfied with. I thought long about it. Took my time to take the shot and to post-process. So this is my starting point to start learning. I know I have a lot to learn, and from these last two submissions I have learned a lot, because I know this is my best now and what I should improve. Reading back this does sound a bit like gibberish, but I hope it's still a bit clear what I mean.

The only setback is that the comments I get are all really really positive. Nice off course, but I would have liked to hear from the peeps who gave me 4 or lower. Anyway, at least I know I am on the right track.

Yay! My favorite picture of this challenge was validated!
Best of luck to the photographer, I hope it wins a blue.

I am not a member, so I can't vote on this one, but I have to say I see a *ton* of top-notch pictures this time. I'm hard pressed to guess a winner from the batch of great photos. Good job guys!
