What a cute writeup by the songwriter about his song:
I have been writing songs since I was 15 years old. My apologies to those who heard the first one...hey, ya gotta start somewhere. Hopefully there has been improvement over the last decades.
I write much of the time now with Cheryl Ashton, a gifted songwriter that I met on The Texas Songwriters' Cruise, which is funny since neither of us are from Texas. Serendipity I guess. She now lives in Central California. I am in Seattle. We get together a few times a year to write.
We have argued over syllables. We have written great melodies, high fived over them, neglected to write them down, hoisted a glass of wine, and promptly forgot what we had just created and were so excited about. We now have a recorder running all of the time. Playback of those tapes reinforces the adage that one must sort through a coal pile to find a diamond.
We wrote "Long Way Home" at a songwriters' retreat in Nashville hosted by the inimitable Rivers Rutherford. He was mentor and sounding board for five days. After spending that time with Rivers it is obvious why he has ten #1 hits to his name. Humble. Genius. Great guy.
If you like the song, give us a vote in the Kauai Song Festival competition. We would love that. we are headed to the Island in July to push our songs, write some more, and get lost in the music. We love that.
Not that Ken/Art's not cute, too... or ... uhh... anything. |

It would be great if we could get some members of a vet/military organization or active military to help out. We need about 300 more people voting if we hope to catch up!
I voted a bunch today but might not be able to vote much tonight. :-(

These responses leave me ROFLMAO, but really? This guy is talented and deserves our votes. Just f\'ing do it! (Nancy Nike Reagan) Go to smashtune dot com and vote for "Long Way Home" I've been voting all week, and if you listen to the other two songs still in the finals, it's like "duh". Vote for Dean.

I think we have it under control, but thanks for creating an account just to tell us to "f\'ing" do it. Not sure what we would have done without you. Oh, wait...I know...we would have helped Ken like he asked up to.
