For anyone interested, Dean and his co-writer, Cheryl Ashton are at the Kauai Music Festival and have two songs ("Undeniable" and "Long Way Home") in the top 7 finalists for the Grand Prize. The songs will be streamed live from the festival tonight at 10pm PST (in about an hour from now) here: //www.ustream.tv/channel/kmf-tv

Mahalo!

Did anyone (besides me) check to find out who won?
Two guesses. yeah, just one, our 16 year-old ran away at the end.
She really, really wanted it and did what it apparently takes to get it.

In fact, I think it was the best song among all those in the competition. So was the video - but here I might be biased...lol!

Biased or not, I agree completely! It was a wonderful song and the video was perfect. I had a real problem with the shameless begging for votes in the second place video. You all should be VERY proud! :) Now...gimme the mug...

Well, if she made up the story as a way to rally other contestants' supporters to her, I still have to give her credit for that - it's a brilliant play for a 16 year old. I'll let karma deal with her. Beyond that, I don't much care which one of them wins. They're both very talented, so they'll do well one way or another.

Ah! That sucks! It should have won. Anyway, gave a vote to Keira.

Well done Ken! Third place is a great finish!

Dang, and it was so good too.

"Voting for this song will be available as soon as the next competition begins." Let us know when it begins again. It's a good tune, and deserves to get out. Do they have a list of how it finished, or is is all or nothing?

Bummer about the loss :(

Well darnsies! I just voted... 1715

I'm sorry Ken. But, really ... you two did a great job! And you'd have a ribbon if it had been DPC.

Whoa - it's over already? For some reason I thought we would still be voting until midnight.
Dean's song was great and I wish he had won but that's what happens in these kinds of contests.

That was an interesting email from Kiera. It sounds plausible so I gave a vote to her too.

Hi Dean,
My name is Keira Moran and I wrote “When I’m With You” in the Smashtune contest. Congratulations on making it so far. I’m sorry to see your video go.
I just want you to know that my friend Horacio is a native Spanish speaker and used to live in Argentina. He translated the tweet Lucia Sosa was sending about you. She referred to you as a “Yankee” which probably doesn’t sound bad to you, but I assure you it is a derogatory term in Argentina (where Lucia Sosa’s voting base is from). The point of her tweet was that you were trying to win the contest by using patriotism and that your song was not good. I disagree, I feel that your song IS good and your video is excellent. She then accused Smashtune of cheating because they reset the votes to zero. You are probably aware of this already, but if you could throw your support behind me I would be honored and really appreciate it as a matter of principle. I’m fortunate to have a lead currently, and the point of asking for your support is not to win, but to send a message that her anti-American campaign was a mistake. I wish you the best of luck with your music in the future and am glad to have been in a competition with artists that set the bar high, as you have done.
Thank you,
Keira

Sure, she could be lying to get votes, but I'll take her at her word and vote for her out of spite for the other girl. Feel free to toss a vote her way if you feel the same. :)

I'm voting for her. Plus she is from Virginia! Home of SemperMarine.

Yes! It was a good song and it sure did come close.
One thing this exercise did do was to rally the DPC troops.
You had us all on the edge of our chairs there for a while, Ken.

Well, no matter the outcome, a thoughtful, beautifully written song was heard and enriched the lives of those who listened. Thank you Art for showing us your skills (that didn't include the green beastie torching villages, not that I don't love that green guy toasting his way through life) and the song. Please congratulate the writers and the singer/musicians - they won in my book.
